Responsibilities
- Review ATIP files, conduct research, and analyze complex, precedent-setting, and sensitive requests for information under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act; Engage with clients to obtain additional clarification when necessary.
- Process ATIP requests, including conducting follow-ups with requestors and relevant contacts.
- Provide recommendations and prepare records for release in compliance with ATIP legislation.
- Draft and manage correspondence such as extension requests, consultation letters, approvals, and response letters.
- Coordinate consultations with third parties, provincial and international entities, and federal government departments and agencies.
- Develop detailed case rationales to support consultations in resolving complex, sensitive, or controversial information release issues.
- Provide recommendations to the Senior ATIP Advisor on decisions for requests submitted under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.
- Provide knowledge transfer to internal employees.
Qualifications
- Valid Reliability or higher level Security Clearance
- Recent and extensive experience in Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP) processes within the public sector or similar environment.
- In-depth knowledge of the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.
- Proven track record of processing and managing ATIP requests from start to finish, including processing complex ATIP files.
- Experience negotiating with ATIP requesters, offices of primary interest (OPI), and other government institutions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess sensitive information and apply redaction appropriately.
- Excellent communication skills to provide advice, collaborate with stakeholders, and prepare clear, concise documentation.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple requests and priorities.
- Experience with ATIP-related software or document management systems is preferred.
- Post-secondary education is preferred.
