We are seeking a Senior Engineer who has knowledge and experience in leading the development of new business in new energy projects, with a particular focus on pumped hydro storage and utility scale renewable power projects. The person selected for this role will be responsible for supporting project development activities, including but not limited to due diligence, permitting, technical advisory services and project management to support early stages of investment planning, through project development and operations. The role will be responsible for coordination of providing a wholistic view of project performance tradeoffs, CAPEX costs, operational costs and risks to optimize the overall project design (and economic metrics) necessary to meet the requirements of the specific commercial opportunity.
What you’ll do
• Manage relationship with consultants from various disciplines
• Define projects scope, cost, timelines, risks and other deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
• Assist to Identify new opportunities and potential fatal flaws in projects as well as proposing mitigation strategies to overcome challenges in project development
• Multi-task and perform highly detailed work under changing conditions
• Plan, execute, and finalize multiple projects according to strict deadlines and within budget
• Coordinate the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan
• Lead the planning and definition of a high value pumped storage project, with the support of tier 1 engineering and project management consulting companies through the Front-End Engineering Design stages
• Contribute to investment valuations, cost estimates, decision summaries, risk analyses and conceptual plans, and preliminary and detailed design work
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil or related field), and P. Eng. license with PEO or an equivalent governing body in Canada
• 10 years of progressive relevant planning, field, and front-end and detailed design experience in power generation and transmission, and/or hydroelectric/storage projects (i.e. development, planning, permit applications or installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance)
• Strong analytical capabilities and communication skills
• Ability to structure and understand economics of projects
• Ability to apply engineering principles to identify issues and develop solutions
• Ability to manage through ambiguity
Preferred Qualifications
