Responsibilities
- Shared responsibility for management of engineering and maintenance projects for the company.
- Shared responsibility for permitting facilities.
- Identify potential engineering projects that have a large return on investment, mitigate risk and are aligned with our strategic imperatives.
- Responsible for creating the business case for engineering projects through the activation of key stakeholders, the exploration of root causes and design solutions to fix-it, the right way, the first time.
- Accountable to activate continuous improvement throughout our terminal through challenging key assumptions and asking questions.
- Accountable for all project management such as the preparation, scheduling, coordination and monitoring of the identified engineering projects.
- Responsible for the recruitment, development and training of engineering staff and contract support.
Key Actions
- Develop project needs analyses, business cases and justifications, based on internal risk reviews and third-party reports.
- Develop project budgets and schedules for inclusion in Pour clients 5-year plan.
- Develop consulting and construction contracts to facilitate the efficient execution of project work.
- Coordinates the activities of engineering consultants and contractors on maintenance. and capital projects. Responsible for reviewing the accuracy of billing from these service providers.
- Responsible for updating and management of engineering records.
- Working closely with the Maintenance Department on required projects.
- Assists the Manager, Maintenance and Engineering with development of operating plans and budgets, capital projects, and long-term strategic planning.
- Summarize, assemble, and prioritize key findings from investigations and inspections to inform potential project ideas.
- Perform design reviews with internal and external stakeholders and consultants.
- Supervise field work being performed by contractors and consultants.
- Monitor and control project budgets, schedules, and documentation.
- Assists the Controller to review and contribute to the Capital Expenditure Plan (CEP) process and oversight.
- Confers with the Manager, Maintenance and Engineering on an ongoing basis to establish Company Policy and to develop strategic plans for the Terminal.
- Shares responsibility for ensuring that an appropriate health and safety program is in place for
contractors and service providers and that the program is effective in establishing and maintaining safe working objectives.
- Ensures the company is in compliance with all health and safety regulations, policies, and standards as they relate to construction.
Stakeholder Management
- Ensures that the VFPA, regulators and other stakeholders are informed with respect to construction and engineering activities at the terminal.
Industry Responsibilities
- Maintains contact with staff at VFPA, Metro Vancouver, other marine terminals, regulators, consultants, contractors, and other service providers on an ongoing basis regarding engineering issues to keep abreast of developments and trends in regulations, practices and other initiatives that may impact terminal sustainability.
Qualifications
- Engineering bachelor’s or master’s Degree and 10-15 years of experience. A professional engineering designation in the province of British Columbia is required.
- Experience in mechanical design
- Experience in construction projects (planning and executing)
- Formal training in Project Management considered an asset
