You’ll make full use of your verbal and written communication skills every day on the job as a customer service representative. You must know your company’s products, services, and policies inside out.
When a tough situation arises, you do everything in your power to solve the problem before escalating it to a team leader or customer service manager. Your manager will arrange for your training and help advance your knowledge of products and services so that you’ll be able to handle more complex inquiries without escalating them.
With the wide variety of jobs that customer service representatives do, you could be assigned to work any hours. You may have regular daytime hours from 9 to 5 in an office atmosphere, but many jobs require shift or weekend work. In some jobs, you’ll be face to face with customers throughout your shift. In others, you’ll work in a call centre with all of your customer contact done by phone, email or chat.
