Reporting to the Data Governance Lead, the Advisor, Data & Analytics within the IT Data Governance Team will play a crucial role in implementing Air Canada’s data governance processes and operating model enabled by the Data Governance Technology Platform. This role will work closely with the different functions within the data management team and with business data stewards and will be responsible for the platform’s accelerated adoption to maximize the return on investment. ... - Lead the vision, roadmap, and prioritization of the Data Governance Platform capabilities and roll-out.
- Create successful relationships with business and be a trusted advisor to support data governance use cases and aspects related to the management of Data.
- Set training and adoption strategy on how data governance will be deployed across IT & Business Units.
- Lead the business requirements and execution of clearly defined business use cases with stakeholders.
- Collaborate with business data stewards, data team members, and organizational leaders to identify opportunities for standardized processes, and contribute to the operationalization of data governance policies, directives, and standards.
- Identify and drive new ways of working together using new processes and tools.
- Create appropriate documentation that allows stakeholders to understand processes and workflows.
- Propose solutions to streamline data management processes that enable the optimal and secure use of data, while respecting compliance, privacy, confidentiality, and security policies.
- Drive adoption by enabling and training of business and technical data stewards, subject matter experts, data consumers and producers.
- Prepare presentations and actively participate in the Data Stewardship Forum and data working groups to communicate roadmap, provide training of new capabilities, and identify new opportunities for the utilization of the Data Governance Platform.
- Research and analyze data management and governance best practices to best apply these learnings to the platform.
- Evaluate and apply to the Data Governance Platform different data governance principles and maturity models.
- Develop and monitor business value metrics (report utilization statistics or usage activity), track financials based on licence utilization and professional services agreement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems or business technology, or equivalent related product ownership experience.
- 9+ years of experience, with at least 5 as a Business or Data Analyst, or Product Manager in a large company
- Good understanding of Data Governance and Data Management methodologies, values, and practices. (i.e., Data Cataloging, Metadata management, Data traceability)
- Strong ability to work in undiscovered, unstructured territories and formalize processes that are currently not formalized.
- Experience linking technical elements (i.e., Data Assets) to business elements (i.e., Business Mapping)
- Strong analytical skills and experience working with Key Performance Indicators.
- Ability to foster teamwork, and to effectively drive cross-team solutions that have complex dependencies and requirements
- Excellent communication both in technical and business terms and problem-solving skills
- Ability to anticipate consequences of situations and take action to be prepared for potential contingencies
- Flexibility and resilience to work under tight deadlines and adjust to rapidly changing conditions
- Ability to notice, interpret, and anticipate others’ concerns or reactions and communicate with them empathetically
- Bias to action in search of business objectives with focus on meeting customer expectations
- Outstanding facilitation skills, interpersonal skills, and experience working with multi-disciplinary teams
- Ability to provide clear direction and effective communication both in technical and business terms
Assets:
- Knowledge of Data Management and Data Quality concepts
- Experience with SDLC tools like JIRA, and Confluence
- Familiarity with Data Governance tools such AXON, Collibra, Informatica, BigID etc. would be considered a strong asset.
- Knowledge of data visualization software (Power BI, Tableau, etc.)
- Airline or travel industry experience a plus
