The Opportunity:

To provide financial analysis support at the plant level to the Canadian Operations to review opportunities to improve the business while assisting Plant Management in the coordination and preparation of the quarterly forecast, annual plan and the company’s five-year plan (operating budget, capital budget). To provide information and analysis with respect to costs, product costs and to ensure that all costs charged to accounts are valid and consistent with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and companies policies and procedures.

•Provide information to plant management and analysis with respect to costs, product costs and unit costs and reporting of plan, actual and forecast amounts.

•Ensure costs charged to accounts at the plant are valid and consistent with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and companies policies and procedures.

•Assist plant management in and coordinate the preparation of forecasts, annual plan and five year plans for operating and capital budgets in compliance with guidelines and timeline set by NA Management reporting & budgeting group.

•Track plant performance against value drivers and educate others on the plant business value drivers.

•Participate in cross functional teams at the plant to perform deviation and root cause analysis and implement action plans that are measurable and contribute to the overall costs or business value drivers.

•Design and deliver business value acumen at the plants.

•Provide analytical support to assist the plant management in ensuring that the range of financial outcomes, value drivers and risks are fully evaluated and aligned to strategic intent of plant, operations and corporate levels for capital and operating spend.

•Attend daily, monthly and ad hoc plant update meetings with plant management.

•Using data to measure and interpret key plant level financial and non-financial KPI’s, including business value drivers, trends, tracking and reporting progress of strategic objectives and recommended corrective actions to key stakeholders.

•Track, analyze and provide information of actual spend at the plant against capital and operating budgets and contract consumption in each operating area.

•Identify and understand the cause-effect relationship between the plant KPIs and define the root cause of the deviation.

•Be a member in the capital risk ranking process at the plant level to ensure all site capital proposals meet cost benefit and business value justifications, provide analysis and advice to plant management for all capex submissions.

•Review and provide input to plant specific business cases (ex. Engineering requests, upgrades, mobile equipment rent vs buy scenarios, total cost of ownership business cases) with direction and oversight from NA Business& Support group.

•Provide guidance and make decisions on capital vs operating spend at the plant, capital lease criteria with direction and oversight from NA Financial Reporting group.

•Ensure plant financial reporting requirements are delivered accurately and timely.

•Prepare and analyze quarterly reconciliations of key balances.

•Provide support to the plant manager by the accumulation and analysis of the monthly forecast using tools such as the production plan and cost driver calculation.

•Review plant process orders and key inventory balances for month end close process.

•Provide information to external and internal auditors to ensure integrity and compliance of financial statements

•Undergraduate Degree, Business related field or Finance.

•Accounting, business/commerce, education in engineering, discipline is preferred


•Three to four years of progressive relevant experience in a resource, processing or manufacturing environment.

•Preferred knowledge and understanding of Accounting principles.

•Professional accounting designation optional CPA.

•Cross-functional team including professional accountants, MBA, Engineering.

Knowledge and Skills:

•Strong knowledge of finance and business analysis.

•Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

•Organized, self-motivated and ability to work independently.

•Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Professional.

•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
