Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director, Claims the Unit Manager, Accident Benefits Claims will oversee a small team of Adjusters that will responsible for oversight and handling of automobile, long haul trucking, motorcycle, and recreational vehicle Accident Benefits claims. The claims are of moderate to high complexity and severity.
*Lead, manage and develop claim associates to maximize full performance potential
*Provide coaching on claims technical skills and strategic direction on claims handling
*Oversight of consistent reserving practices in accordance with reserving philosophy
*Assist with review and preparation of large loss reports
*Ensure adherence to Regulatory requirements
*Manage distribution of workload and monitor capacity and resourcing
*Conducts regular feedback discussions with associates regarding training needs, development plans, execution of plans, and performance results
*Encourages continuous learning within the team
*Creates and delivers performance reviews along with action plans to manage performance
*Delivers exceptional customer service, internally and externally
Qualifications
Who You Are
*Post-secondary education or equivalent industry experience
*A minimum of 5 years of claims handling experience; handling complex files
*A minimum of 2 years of leadership experience
*Relevant and progressive claims experience, inclusive of technical and coverage issues, management /resolution.
*Working knowledge of the SABS/Insurance Act and other legislation governing property and casualty insurance claims.
*Familiarity with established and recent case law (FSCO/LAT)
*Knowledge of principles and practices of claims settlement, policy wording, fraud investigations and coverage issues
*Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook)
*Progressive experience in training / mentoring / coaching using a variety of approaches
