If you are Coating Inspector with experience in the inspection of compressor stations and you are looking for your next exciting opportunity, we want to hear from you. Our Quebec based client is looking to fill several contract Coating Inspector positions and they may be waiting on your resume.

Coating Inspector duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Observe Contractor progress and inspect all coating and painting activities in their assigned areas in accordance with Company drawings, plans, specifications and the terms of the construction contract or agreement
• Works under the direction of the Construction Manager or Assistant Construction Manager and will also be asked to assist other certified craft inspectors, as directed
• Apply working knowledge of all applicable client and industry standards for the coating scope of work for each project
• Ensure compliance with safety standards outlined in our client’s safety policies and procedures, Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations in Canada and OSHA in the U.S. and our client’s OHS specification
• Ensure conformance to our client’s specifications
• Ensure compliance with all project-specific environmental requirements as outlined in the project’s Environmental Protection Plan and as directed by the project’s environmental inspector
• Ensure compliance with all project-specific right-of-way requirements as outlined in the land-owner line list and as directed by the project land agent or land manager
• Collect the required material safety data sheets (MSDS) information for the coating and paint systems being applied
• Provide the Construction Manager or Assistant Construction Manager with all necessary coating and painting information to ensure proper completion of reports and documents that are required for the documentation turnover package
• Submit nonconformance reports, as required
• Use the correct applications and software to submit reports
• Ensure coating assessment reports are submitted by the contractor’s NACE representative
• Ensure certificates of calibration are current and are included in the turnover package
• Ensure certifications of coating personnel are valid for each product being used and this information is included in the turnover package
• Ensure the coating contractor provides all reports related to the surface preparation and coating application for daily activities
• Review all documentation and ensuring it is correctly completed
• Ensure that the contractor develops the inspection test plan, when TransCanada has active control
• Inspect work performed by contractors to accept or reject workmanship
• Assist with inspections, under the direction of other certified craft inspectors assigned to the project, as required
• Ensure that contractor personnel involved with coating and painting are experienced and are familiar with the materials to be applied
• Ensure that the manufacturers’ recommendations and procedures are followed during surface preparation and application of the coating or paint system
• Ensure new pipe coating applications are as specified

Coating Inspector Qualifications

• Five (5) plus years of related experience in field inspection and mainline/facilities activities
• Degree / diploma as a civil engineer, technician or technologist and/or Certification from the Interprovincial Standards red seal program as a journeyman in a relevant field
• Minimum NACE Level 1 certification through National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE); NACE Level 2 certification is considered a definite asset
• Working knowledge of the latest Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Z662 Oil and Gas Pipeline System and CSA Z245.30 Field-Applied External Coatings for Steel Pipeline Systems
• Bilingual (English/French)
• WHMIS/TDG, First Aid / CPR, Defensive Driving and Ground Disturbance Level II certification
• Strong background in one or more pipeline general Inspector construction activities (e.g. excavation, bending, lowering in, backfill, etc.)
• Possesses a working knowledge of the latest Provincial environmental codes
• Possesses a strong background in the oil, gas and/or petrochemical industries
• Strong background in excavation methods in close proximity to buried, energized, loaded mechanical and electrical systems
• Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and effective communication (oral, written, listening) skills
• A strong team player with the ability to work independently when required
• Possesses a strong background in loss prevention programs
• Strong computer skills - working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - i.e. Word, Excel, Power Point
• Strong background in company design and construction execution methods.
• Strong team player with the ability to work independently when required
