We are seeking an experienced Electrical/ITS Engineer for a well established Engineering client of ours in the Vancouver area.

This individual must have a minimum of 5 years of electrical design experience relevant to lighting, traffic signals and intelligent transportation system infrastructure design, combined with a good understanding and application of power distribution. This role is to support the engineering team on a wide range of assignments and to work in capacity as project manager and design engineer as well as provide mentorship to our clients junior EIT and CAD technical team.


• Initiate and work with design and drafting staff to complete engineering assignments.
• Interact and interface with clients on project requirements, deliverables and customer service
• Perform hands-on design, and calculations for, roadway and area lighting, traffic signals, intelligent transportation systems and infrastructure for fibre and wireless networks.
• Duties in the lighting and traffic signal signals includes budget estimates, lighting design and calculations, traffic signal design, research into latest technology for lighting fixtures and associated controls, prepare technical reports, tender documentation and field support (including commissioning).
• Duties in the area of intelligent transportation systems and fibre and wireless networks includes research into latest technology trends, product evaluations and technical reports, prepare design for the required infrastructure (conduit, wireless radio network connection map, fibre network layout), equipment specifications, and commissioning services.
• Other duties include managing budgets and resources, prepare cost estimates, single line diagrams, load and voltage drop calculations, short circuit analysis, calculations, grounding layouts, cable schedules, equipment specifications, control and wiring schematics.
• All service application areas generally require development of equipment specifications, custom installation details and tender drawing packages, together with support services during construction related to review of shop drawings, answer questions and final commissioning/substantial completion site inspection.
• Ensure that project deliverables are met in a timely manner to a high quality.
• Take direction from Senior Project Managers.
• Function as project manager and direct and supervise design and CAD technicians.
• Review drawings and perform quality control checks.
• Provide construction stage services on projects such as:
-Perform on-site field inspection of works and write letter of deficiency reports
-Answer contractor questions and issue RFI or Design Change Notices
-Review contractor progress payments
-Undertake other tasks as required


• Experience in design of road and area lighting.
• Experience in electrical design of traffic signals and ITS systems.
• Experience designing cable trays and schedules, controls, lighting, grounding and wiring for industrial buildings
• Familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code and API Standards
• Experience in 120/208VAC, 480 VAC, 600VAC, 24 VDC power distribution and associated calculations in support of the design of feeders and main service connection
• Hands-on working knowledge and proficiency with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and Windows OS environment other software applications associated with modelling and system analysis associated with this professional sector
• Proven problem solving abilities with creative mind set when approaching solutions
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
• History of developing and delivering engineering design, drawings and specifications.

Would be an asset to have:
• Experience in traffic control and communication systems
• Experience with the latest LED lights and DMX controls
• Experience in specifying and evaluating electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, motor control centers, panels and relays
• Experience managing several projects at one time
