    We are seeking a Field Lab Analyst for a well-established client of ours in the Edmonton area. The Field Lab Analyst is responsible for providing highly skilled, flexible, and timely operational and analytical support on demand for short-term or long-term Onsite Petroleum Laboratory and Client projects, anywhere and anytime.

    Responsibilities
    Operations:
    •Provides relief support for Petroleum Lab short-term onsite projects, including vacation coverage, staff vacancies and leaves of
    •absence, as required and coordinated by direct supervisor/manager.
    •Confidently provides field sampling, analytical and physical properties testing and support services.
    •Works closely with Onsite Lab supervisor/manager and clients to maintain seamless operations.
    •Develops and maintains proficiency and specialized knowledge of all routine analysis within laboratory network.
    •Thoroughly understands analytical procedures and problem solves issues.
    •Demonstrates willingness, flexibility and determination to complete tasks with utmost safety and quality.
    •Provides technical expertise and mentoring to junior staff, including training.
    •Identifies operational, analytical, safety, and quality best practice improvement opportunities.
    •Maintain active involvement and provides support to ensure that instrumentation and equipment are working and well maintained.
    •Perform routine and non-routine instrument maintenance and troubleshooting and independently provides options and
    •recommendations while onsite.
    •Performs instrument installation, method and/or data development and validation activities.
    •Employs proper laboratory techniques to minimize risk of mislabeling, sample mix-up and cross contamination between samplers
    •and other materials.
    •Review Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) summary reports to prioritize daily workload for self and junior staff
    •Meets lab/client turnaround time (TAT) requirements with accurate defensible data.
    •Provides general lab support to other departments as required.
    Compliance:
    •Act as a positive change agent in supporting the companys’ new initiatives (operational and cultural).
    •Recognizes opportunities for improvement, including production inefficiencies and business opportunities for the organization
    •while on site, and communicates these suggestions with direct supervisor/manager
    •Maintain direct communication with direct supervisor/manager pertaining to overtime, shift work, changes in work schedule, etc.
    •Actively supports and complies with all organizational policies, quality, health, and safety programs.
    •Abides by all company safety rules and complies with specific client/laboratory rules implemented at each location, including directions from area supervisor/manager, ensuring all work is conducted safely.
    •Follow site specific standard operating procedures (SOP’s).
    •Identifies and communicates non-conformances to supervisor/manager and provides input on corrective action procedures.
    •Maintains training records and relevant qualifications.
    •Participates in developing SOPs and general work instructions as required.
    •Actively participate in lab and health and safety meetings.
    •Participates in internal and external audit when requested.
    •Keeps work area clean, neat and organized.
    •All other responsibilities as assigned.


    Qualifications
    •Bachelor of Science or technical diploma (i.e. Chemical Technology) with strong focus in chemistry/laboratory science or
    •equivalent.
    •5-10 years of relevant, broad based experience in laboratory environment.
    •Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), quality and document control systems highly desired.
    •Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and written, frequently interacting with various laboratory, client
    •and 3rd parties during work assignments.
    •Must possess strong organizational, analytical and problem solving skills.
    •Work well with teams, but must be confident working independently, with little direct supervision at times.
    •Flexible to work and maintain a positive outlook in dynamic situations, often in different work environments and with different
    •personalities.
    •Broad experience and expertise in many of the following procedures/analysis/instrumentation is required, but not limited to:
    •Field sampling and sample preparation; water, gases, petroleum, geochemical.
    •Gas Chromatography (GC-FID, GC-TCD, GC-SCD) related to Simulated Distillation Analyses, Detailed Hydrocarbon
    •Analyses, Sulphur and Refinery Gas Analyses.
    •Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP-OES) – hydrocarbon and water matrixes
    •Ion Chromatography (LC and HPLC) applications.
    •Use of rotary evaporators, high speed centrifuges, BS&W, solids analysis, quick bitumen and Dean and Stark distillations
    •Oil and Gas physical properties relating to density, viscosity, flash point, vapour pressure (RVP), Karl Fisher titration, x-ray
    •sulphur content analysis, particle size distribution (PSD), and asphaltenes.
    •Petroleum Product testing including ASTM D86 distillations, cloud point, trace sulphur, copper strip corrosion, CHNS
    •analysis, conductivity of fuels, H2S & mercaptan analyses, total & filterable solids, microcarbon residue testing (MCRT).
    •Water analysis: total organic/inorganic carbon (TOC/TIC) analysis, pH testing, total chloride analysis, total phosphorous
    •analysis, COD, turbidity, conductivity , total dissolved solids (TDS), Oil and Grease (O&G), and potable water testing.
