As an experienced Geotechnical Engineer, you will have approximately 2 to 8+ years of professional experience, while being a strong team player with high productivity and excellent attention to detail. Aside from your technical skills, you’ll also have the opportunity to leverage your established contacts and local experience to further build out our geotechnical services.
The successful candidate can be based in any city center in British Columbia or Alberta with a McElhanney office, and can work on-site, remote or a combination of both. For EIT level candidates, being located in Edmonton, AB, Cranbrook or Fernie, BC would be preferable as senior engineering mentors are readily available.

Responsibilities
As a Technical Expert:
Manage geotechnical investigations and studies, complete with interpretation and documentation of results, on a wide variety of transportation, municipal, land development and resource related projects
Geotechnical analysis of stability, stress, deformation, and foundation response utilizing a suite of software platforms
Provide oversight, risk management and technical input to geotechnical projects and deliverables
Coordinate field projects, including prequalification, safety clearances and procurement of sub-contractors and sub-consultants as required
Prepare concise geotechnical reports complete with pertinent recommendations
Carry out and supervise field inspection of construction works
Prepare fee estimates and proposals for geotechnical assignments
Support other internal divisions with geotechnical input. (Structural, Marine Structural, Civil, Environmental)
As a Leader:
An efficient and effective communicator. Comfortable working from the office, home and in remote work environments with the primary form of team and client communication via telephone and virtual video meetings
Participate in business development (internal and external) and client management to help grow the business
Manage project schedules and budgets efficiently and effectively
Oversight, guidance, direction and mentoring of junior technical staff, at a level consistent with your experience.
Grow technical expertise with the mindset of supporting the existing and future of our business and Geotechnical team
Qualifications
University degree in Geotechnical/Geological Engineering or Civil Engineering with a geotechnical emphasis
A minimum of 2 to 8+ years progressive experience in relevant geotechnical field, with experience in:
Geotechnical engineering analysis, design, and consulting
Seismic engineering and modeling are an asset
Marine and land base piling analysis and design an asset
Slope hazard assessments and land development projects, is an asset
Computer modeling programs used to develop designs; knowledge of AutoCAD and geotechnical software (i.e., RocScience, GeoStudio software)
Registration as a P.Eng. in British Columbia and/or Alberta, or be eligible for registration
Strong technical, oral, and written communication skills
Strong project management skills (Budgeting, project financials monitoring, etc.)
Ability to work both independently and with a multidiscipline team in various locations and especially remote work environments
