Job Description for Homecare's Phlebotomist's in Ontario, specifically in Ottawa and Kingston:

Independent Contractor role responsible for weekly (daily) visits to nursing homes, retirement homes and private home visits performing venipuncture collections and resting ECG’s . Administrative duties required, as well as collecting money from private home visits. Adherence to SOP’s for collecting and processing specimens. Ensure that standards for technical efficiency, quality control, patient safety & dignity, as well as Ministry of Health and other government regulations are adhered to.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


• Collect blood samples by venipuncture (early morning collection)
• Performs ECG, following company guidelines
• Ensure that standards for technical efficiency, quality control are met, and Ministry of Health and other government regulations are adhered to
• Ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative. Able to work without direct supervision
• Excellent telephone manner and proven communication skills
• Dealing with patient concerns, difficult draws or complaints /situations
• Ability to prioritize work
• Ensures supplies are properly ordered, maintained and stock has not exceeded expiry date.
• Ensures all necessary documentation is collected, completed, logged and specimens are correctly processed.
• Ensures proper documentation of receiving and recording money as per company guidelines
• Routine disinfecting of work area and equipment is to be completed on a routine/scheduled basis
• Responsible to protect their Health and Safety by reporting hazards and working in compliance with standard Safe Working Practices
• Ensure patient safety and dignity at all times
• Maintain documentation of work related mileage, as required
• Maintain and operate vehicle according to the rules of the Ontario Highway Act, observing all by-laws and regulations as required
• Responsible to preserve and safeguard all confidential information that comes to their knowledge in the course of completing services laboratories.
• Responsible to observe and comply with company guidelines and all applicable legal requirements with respect to confidential information and the protection of privacy.

SKILLS / MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Education: Post-Secondary School
• Certification or degree required: Approved Medical Laboratory assistant course or equivalent an asset
• Previous venipuncture strong experience required
• 3 Months experience in healthcare
• A Valid driver’s license, clean abstract, must own and operate a vehicle
• Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, at a level that enables you to communicate instructions, clearly and understandably, to patients
