Randstad is currently seeking an Intermediate Structural Engineer to work in our client’s Kitchener office. The successful candidate will work under the Division Manager and will be responsible for assisting with structural design of residential and ICI (institutional-commercial-industrial) projects, site reviews of construction, and site investigations of existing structures.

Key Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Project Engineer:

• Structural design and evaluation of building components, including steel, masonry, concrete, light gauge steel and wood
• Perform finite element modelling for building and structural systems
• Provide technical guidance to designers and junior staff, review drawings to ensure accuracy and conformance to the design
• Ensure construction plans and specifications meet guidelines and specifications of building codes and other regulations
• Site investigation and evaluation of existing building structures and write field reports.
• Preparation of drawings or drafting as required, review shop drawings
• Work within the project team environment from preliminary stages of the design through to completion
• Coordination and communicate with other engineers, architects, contractors, designers and home owners.

Professional Qualifications:

• Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited Canadian University (or equivalent)
• 3 - 5 years of experience in structural engineering with a focus on residential, commercial, and/or institutional building projects
• Registered or eligible for registration as an EIT or P.Eng with the Professional Engineers of Ontario
• Experience with the Ontario Building Code and engineering standards
• Proficient in ETABS or similar finite elements modelling software

• Ability to work independently with minimum direction
• Ability to work with a team and meet deadlines
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Valid G Class driver’s license and personal vehicle for travel
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and AutoCAD suite
