The Lab Analyst is responsible for performing all aspects of data analysis, including instrument set-up and maintenance and data interpretation, in accordance with departmental Standard Operating Procedures and Health and Safety policies.

Responsibilities
-Process and interpret data
-Summarize and complete data for ongoing and MV summaries
-Ensure standards and comparisons are performed and documented
-Prepare and execute daily/weekly run plans
-Operate instrument, including maintenance and repairs
-Arrange for service, schedule PM’s
-Standard preparation and documentation consistently coordinated and completed in timely manner
-Ensure a high level of accuracy in sample analysis
-Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and Work Instructions (WI’s) when conducting all aspects of sample preparation and analysis, including evaluation of data and maintenance and assessment of control charts
-Prioritize workload daily to accommodate rushes and meet TAT specifications required by the client
-Ensure samples are analyzed within TAT requirements
-Review LIMS summary reports to plan and organize daily work
-Provide Supervisor with updates on workstation status including advance notification of any delays
-Identify and communicate non conformances to Supervisor, with contribution to investigation and implementation of corrective actions
-Ensure that instruments and equipment are appropriately maintained, including scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs
-Participate in developing and revising controlled documents, such as, SOP’s, WI’s and FCD’s
-Employ proper laboratory techniques to minimize risk of mislabeling, sample mix-up and cross contamination between samples and other materials
-Consistently demonstrates sound judgement re: ability to report data (e.g. screening batches vs reporting positives), wrt QC requirements, regulations etc.
-Execute on method validation (incl infusing, run parms, coordination with tech and SPVR) and project movement with minimal follow-up
-Participate in internal and external audit investigations/corrective actions
-Suggest areas/items for method/instrument optimization
Qualifications
-Post-secondary school education plus 2 years of laboratory experience with complex food matrices
-Theoretical knowledge of extraction techniques (i.e. SPE, liq-liq extractions)
-Knowledge of the operation of laboratory equipment and instrumentation, especially with respect to liquid chromatography with mass spec detection and/or gas chromatography with mass spec detection as required, and calculation of results
-Knowledge of quality control requirements at the batch production level for residue analysis
-Familiarity with government regulations for Maximum Residue Limits in Food
-Positive outlook with a ability to work in a fast paced environment
-Good time-management, communication, organizational and priority setting skills
-Ability to adapt to a changing environment
-Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
-Detail orientated & record keeping skills
-Ability to accurately follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and instructions
-Ability to learn quickly
-The job incumbent must be available for shift work, working on weekends and overtime
