Are you a senior accounting professional with previous supervisory or management experience within a large corporate environment? Have you previously been responsible for reviewing and approving ledger and financial statement activities? Are you looking for a new opportunity to work in an industry leading environment? We are currently looking for a Lead Accountant to support our client, a leading Canadian Oil and Gas firm, in their North York office. In this role you will work full time hours on a 12 month assignment, and earn a rate competitive within the market. As a lead accountant you will provide technical guidance to both finance and operations leaders, and oversee a group of 5 professional accountants (not direct reports) and assist in the maintenance of the financial ledgers for 20 operating assets in compliance with local laws/GAAPs, government regulations and filing requirements. Daily activities will include but not be limited to the following:

• Book Journals to reflect financial activities in compliance with above same (may include some or all of: accruals, fixed assets, stock/inventory, accounts receivables, accounts payables, expenses)
• Ensure timely and defect-free account reconciliations.
• Ensure all expenses paid & recorded in ERP system, ensuring compliance within SOPs and business/company policies.
• Participate in regular balance sheet and income statement reviews and variance analyses - Provide accurate and timely statutory & management reporting
• Provide Ad hoc reporting for Corporate/Business requests
• Execute on policies and procedures during monthly/quarterly close process including account reconciliations, account reconciliation audits, Data Request (DR) submissions
• Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley 404 requirements
• Perform financial analysis of balance sheet accounts to ensure compliance, integrity of account balances/financial reporting and effectiveness of business processes
• Participate and provide input into simplification initiatives
• Research and advise on complex technical accounting issues
• Partner with Audit Staff and Finance Managers for internal compliance reviews
• Drive closure of open audit issues and proactively work to prevent future issues / manage risk
• Lead resulting corrective action process implementation and follow up throughout the organization
• Identify potential risks & opportunities & and communicate effectively

Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or other business related field and 10+ year progressive accounting or finance experience
• Demonstrated proficiency in U.S. GAAP and IFRS.
• CPA, or other accounting designation (CPA, CA preferred)
• Experience managing/leading a team is preferred
• Previous experience in financial reporting, accounting research
• Familiar with Oracle, Hyperion Financial Management, Smartview
• Excellent communication skills, and ability to communicate ideas to both junior and senior staff
