Responsibilities
As a Line Cook, your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Work closely with the Executive Chef to keep residents satisfied with food and dining programs
• Maintain kitchen and food storage and preparation areas in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition at all times
• Adhere to cleaning schedules as assigned
• Ensure that all food is received, stored, and prepared according to company standards
• Estimate daily or weekly needs of food and supplies and communicate needs to Head Chef
• Participate in preparing and cooking meals according to chef approved menus
• Prepare, cook, and bake a variety of foods, including but not limited to entrees, vegetables, and baked goods
• Adhere to standard food safety practices
• To complete daily temperature audits for fridge, freezers and storerooms and record findings on daily audit form
• To make menu substitutions as necessary and record these in designated place
• To follow and comply with health and safety legislation and departmental safe job procedures
• Establishes and ensures maintenance of food rotations in storage / inventory in order to minimize spoilage and waste
• Participate in the cleaning of kitchen area and all equipment using the prescribed safety equipment and approved cleaning chemicals
Qualifications
As a Line Cook, you must qualify the following:
• Food handlers permit as required by provincial law and/or Company standards
• Able to read and follow recipes and printed production guides, cleaning schedules, and logs
• Knowledge of food handling, preparation, cooking, and service
• Must have experience in large quantity food preparation, preferably in a healthcare or retirement setting
• An aptitude toward detail and creativity with good planning and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and follow instructions with minimal supervision
• Ability to communicated well in written and oral English
• Must be physically able to lift and transfer heavy, hot items, and stand for majority of shift
• Must provide current Criminal Record Check (within six months) or be willing to obtain one
• Must provide a proof of COVID-19 Vaccination
