Responsibilities
- Oversight and approval of all functions related to accounts payable (approval of purchase orders/vendor payments), accounts receivable (adherence to credit policy/timely payment), general ledger (proper batch management and recording of transactions), and asset management (cash in bank, recording\amortization of fixed assets, insurance)*
- Ensure proper preparation of general ledger entries.
- Ensure proper recording and reporting of the manufacturing process as it relates to inventory valuation and cost of goods sold.
- Manage cash flow to ensure liquidity and optimize return on excess amounts.
- Manage internal controls - create and monitor procedures, policies, and internal controls to ensure risk of error, fraud, theft or any mischievous intent is mitigated.
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and immediately report to executive management any irreconcilable discrepancies*
- Administer all functions related to processing employee payroll through PayWorks**
- Oversee the third party administered staff insurance and benefit program and associated deductions
- Prepare all statutory information returns, where applicable, and ensure payment of all statutory amounts in a timely manner and compliance with all rules and regulations - GST/PST; payroll; income; health; and WorkSafe*
- Ensure all financial records kept are consistent with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Coordinate with external accountants for preparation of the annual review or audit, as necessary, ensuring
accuracy and completeness in the supporting information required.
- Coordinate with the external accountants for the preparation of annual income tax returns.
- Assist executive staff and coordinate with external accountants to ensure the most efficient corporate tax structure, as necessary
Qualifications
- Legally permitted to work in Canada
- Proven experience is necessary
- Augmented communication skills are required; controller is required to work in all areas of the company
and with external partners in a way that accurately represents the organization
- Extensive computer use including the entire MS suite
- Direct experience with our current accounting software
- Proven ability to track work in a meticulous fashion
- Ability to read and write fluently in English
- Supervisory experience considered an asset
