Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Materials Manager is responsible for, but not limited to, managing the materials department to direct and coordinate the efficient flow of raw, in-process and finished inventories of the Cambridge plant. Responsible for directing the Shipping/receiving and Materials departments with the distribution of our product; and ensuring customer requirements are met. Responsible for maintaining a green status on our Customer rating. Responsible for Subcontractor scheduling/tracking and attainment metrics.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
●Responsible for maintaining safe working conditions and practices to ensure the safety of all employees.
●Will ensure compliance with Employment Health and Safety Legislation, the Collective Agreement and Company policies and procedures. Ensure the standards of Sections 27, and 28 of the OHSA are met.
●Performing workplace inspections
●Conducting information sessions (safety talks, staff meetings, tailgate meetings).
●Conducting incident investigations
●Correcting substandard acts or conditions
●Performing employee safety observations on performance and commending employee health and safety performance.
●Responsible for maintaining Procedures and Instructions within the department.
●Responsible for managing - (e.g. expedites / premium freight, bank builds, overtime, production scheduling, tier 2 schedules, rack fleet) the activities of the Materials and Shipping/Receiving staff in the Cambridge Plant to ensure the requirements of our customers are met.
●Ensure customer requirements are received weekly and daily and all communication on shipments made is generated on a timely basis.
●Responsible to ensure customer requirements are met through the effective management of people, systems and resources.
●Responsible for the effective communication of any problems with meeting customer schedules (including issues related to raw and subcontractor suppliers) to the appropriate contact person at customer locations and also with internal levels of management.
●Responsible for sub-contractor management through schedules and ensuring inventories are maintained by monthly reconciliation processes.
●Responsible for overseeing the production schedule, raw material purchasing schedule and labour schedule to ensure customer requirements are met.
●Analyse expendable container inventory levels and usage to accommodate alternate shipment activities.
●Analyse material purchasing and expediting activities to ensure proper procedures are followed during special events such as engineering changes and product launches.
●Verify raw supplier schedules for accuracy and to ensure that E.O.Q.s are maintained and reviewed throughout the year as the book of business changes.
●Ensure all inventory targets set are achieved.
●Ensure the Materials budget is on target and achieved for freight, manpower, and supplies.
●Developing employees by ensuring they receive training in the areas of quality, equipment, safety and any other areas that will help them to excel in their assignments, and by providing annual performance reviews. Ensure all employees are cross-trained to provide effective backup and support for other department members.
●Setting key performance indicators and targets for the department in conjunction with the development of continuous improvement
●Keep abreast of all technological changes in M.R.P. systems, and inventory management and make recommendations as to implementation.
●Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
●Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing and related processes, including customer shipping requirements, production scheduling and raw materials
●APICS courses or certification preferred.
●Grade 12 and five years or more of experience in a computerized materials management/production environment
●Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
●Good computer skills and knowledge of the relevant software
