Projects vary in scale from small single discipline projects to larger, multidiscipline projects with project costs in excess of several million dollars.*The expected duration for this role is one (2) year.The successful candidate will:*Provide expertise as a Senior Engineer and Owner’s Engineer on the Heavy Equipment team in Mechanical Engineering Design.*Be a leader in working safely and efficiently.*Be skilled in Engineering design as well as working with consultants, reviewing and accepting their work on behalf of BC Hydro in the role of Owner’s Engineer, done primarily in the heavy mechanical/industrial discipline to ensure accuracy and achievement of required results and adherence to engineering good practices and standards.*Be skilled in the ability to collaborate with, support, and assist other disciplines like, protection and control, electrical, civil, geotechnical, estimating, procurement, quality management, construction management and project management.*Work with project teams including engineers, dam safety personnel, operations personnel, project managers, environmental professionals, and other stakeholders, to help develop the scope, objectives and user requirements of individual projects.*Provide work leadership and technical direction to junior engineers, consultants and support staff.*Provide regular and significant coaching/mentoring, act as a role model and engage in personal leadership self-development.*Perform role of Work Package Manager, responsible for scope, schedule, quality and cost of engineering work package. May act as a Project Engineer overseeing and coordinating multiple engineering work packages.*Carry out detailed searches of background information, including drawings, previous reports, construction information, previous project information, maintenance information, etc.*Plan and implement field investigations / site visits as required for obtaining information on site conditions.*Prepare working design bases for design tasks to document the design objectives, design criteria, technical references used, load cases and combinations, analysis methodology, design assumptions, and any other relevant design information.*Prepare detailed summaries of background information, recommendation memos, design reports, and technical specifications.*Review and evaluate supplier proposals for the design, supply and installation or upgrade of mechanical equipment.*Review and provide engineering input into equipment installation and commissioning procedures. Provide on-site technical support and acceptance during equipment installation and commissioning.*Be comfortable traveling to and working at site, including at heights using fall protection equipment.*Be capable of analysis and design of structural components. Analysis may consist of simplified analysis by hand calculation or Excel but may also include the use of structural analysis software such ANSYS, Algor, or similar FEA software to carry out more detailed analyses for more complex loading conditions.*Prepare clear design sketches by hand or using 2D or 3D software to assist in clarifying technical details. Provide direction to and support drafters and technologists.Qualifications:The successful candidate must have: *Registered or eligibility for registration a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientist of British Columbia (EGBC). The individual shall be proficient with EGBC quality management guidelines.*Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering *Minimum 8 years progressive experience as a Mechanical Engineer in the heavy mechanical/industrial design discipline ideally related one or more of hydraulic gate design, hoists, bridge cranes and gantry cranes. This includes experience with performance investigations, repairs/modifications, seismic upgrades, installation of new equipment and upgrades.*Knowledge of hydropower industry and similar transferrable experience will be considered as an asset.*Candidates with lesser qualifications are encouraged to apply and may be considered for an Intermediate Engineer (P2) position.Qualifications• Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with Engineers & Geoscientists BC or with another jurisdiction and eligible for registration as such with Engineers & Geoscientists BC• BC Hydro uses a Digital Sign and Seal Technology.
