Role: Optical Engineer
Status: Full time
Location: Ville St-Laurent

Our client located in Ville Saint-Laurent designs and manufactures architectural luminaires for the commercial, industrial and residential marketplace.
Reporting to the CTO, the Optical Engineer will be responsible for researching, developing and implementing optical solutions within LED luminaires. The optical engineer will be responsible for creatively solving complex optical challenges using a combination of custom optical design work as well as off-the-shelf solutions. The optical engineer should have experience in optical simulation (Photopia, LightTools, or equivalent).


Responsibilities


Optical design of for new and existing light fixtures;
Develops testing simulations on Photopia;
Support prototype assembly and testing activities;
Design and selection of optical components: lenses, reflectors and light guides
Testing with a gonio-photometer and analysis of data result;
Research of new technology & new materials / components;
Provide expert guidance and collaborate with the designers, engineers, purchasing and sales teams.

Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Physics or Optical Engineering or Dec in Engineering technology with work experience;
3 to 5 years’ experience
Hands-on experience of optical testing/simulation
Good knowledge of manufacturing environment
Experience in optical safety standards
Knowledge: Solidworks
Knowledge: Photopia, LightTools, ray tracing software
Knowledge: Gonio-photometer
