Responsibilities
Working with the Government Affairs and Public Policy team in Canada, you'll be part of a small team responsible for Google's engagement with government officials, agencies and other stakeholders in Canada. The role requires experience in government, politics and technology policy issues, strong written and oral communication skills and an ability to explain complex technical and policy issues. Responsibilities will include:
• Develop and lead public policy campaigns across policy areas that impact Google and the Internet.
• Engage directly with stakeholders in policy areas that impact Google and our users, including technology innovation, cybersecurity, free expression, privacy, artificial intelligence and intellectual property.
• Track regulations, legislation and policy proposals and analyze their potential impact on Google’s products and business.
Qualifications
•Education: BA / BS required. In lieu of degree, relevant skills or equivalent experience.
•7-10 years of relevant work experience, including time spent working in government, a regulatory agency, politics, government relations and/or the corporate or public interest world in Canada.
•Effective communicator with excellent interpersonal, networking and presentation skills.
•Familiarity with policy issues affecting the tech sector or the key issues impacting the web (i.e. innovation and entrepreneurship policy, intellectual property, STEM, free expression, data protection, telecom/media policy).
•Ability to think, plan, and execute with minimal direction and supervision.
•Ability to translate complex issues into understandable language for a broad range of audiences.
•Enthusiastic team player with the ability to work with people from a broad range of backgrounds and experiences.
