Responsibilities
As an IFRS 17 Senior Accounting Control Analyst, your duties will include:
•Supporting the design, build, and use of data to manage and prepare for the month-end and quarter-end accounting close process for our payout annuity business.
•Support and evaluate the process of accounting for new business sales under IFRS 17.
•Supporting the timelines for month end and quarter end financial close process.
•Preparing and designing of standard operating procedures to strengthen our internal controls.
•Preparing account reconciliation and investigate reconciling items.
•Preparing manual accounting entries (journal entries) and supporting evidence.
•Reviewing daily feeder files between sub ledger and general ledger and investigate differences.
•Identifying and recommending continuous improvement opportunities for deliverables and processes.
•Developing automated processes and tools to support key team deliverables.
•Collaborating with team on day-to-day accounting issues, support projects, initiatives and adhoc requests.
Qualifications
•Post-secondary education in Business, Finance or a similar discipline and holds a higher-level of education (e.g. CPA/CFA designation, MBA).
•3-5 years of work experience in insurance and financial services industry.
•Experience in financial close and reporting process for financial reporting of business results.
•Experience with financial reporting systems and tools (e.g. Longview, Oracle, Hyperion).
•Flexible, creative approach to work, a willingness to challenge the status quo and a driver of continuous improvement.
•Strong commitment to both timelines and quality of deliverables.
•Ability to apply complex technical analysis on a practical basis, document and communicate in simple understandable language.
•Strong communication and presentation skills, both verbally and in writing, and ability to build effective and collaborative business relationships.
•Team player, ability to multi-task, detail-oriented, strong commitment to quality, analytical, strong problem solving and consultative skills.
•CPA designation is required
Nice to have:
•Knowledge of and exposure to IFRS17 is an asset.
•Business Intelligence/Analytics tools experience is an asset.
