The Packaging Manager will lead the team responsible for the packaging of pharmaceutical products in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), customer specifications, and company operational objectives.


•Responsible for promoting and maintaining safe and healthy working conditions in his/her assigned work area; instructs, enforces and evaluates employees under his/her supervision to work in compliance with established safe work practices and procedures; ensures workers receive appropriate training and information necessary to conduct their activities in a safe and healthy manner.
•Promotes and exemplifies culture, ensuring that employees produce pharmaceutical products of the highest quality while delivering an exceptional customer experience through core values
•Ensures proper staffing levels and is responsible for the selection, hiring, training and development of team members.
•Manages and directs the staff responsible for Packaging, Material Handling, and Batch Document management.
•Responsible for ensuring that all areas of responsibility meet or exceed regulatory requirements (ie. cGMP, Health & Safety, Environmental), including documentation, processes, equipment and general Packaging area.
•Responsible for ensuring that all regulated operations in area of responsibility are adequately described by written procedures and that all operations are conducted according to the written procedures.
•Responsible for the efficient day-to-day operation of Packaging Department including but not limited to: Packaging, Material Handling, and Documentation.
•Manages the Packaging Schedule and resources to meet order delivery dates while meeting or exceeding quality requirements
•Works with external auditors, customers and third-party contractors as needed.
•Reviews and approves master production records, Packaging Validation documentation and SOPs that directly impact the Packaging Department, as well as all corresponding change controls.
•Participates, directly or by supporting direct reports, in the prompt resolution of production issues, with focus on the identification of root cause and the corresponding corrective action(s) to prevent re-occurrence.
•Reviews and approves Packaging quotes (Routings) generated by Engineering and revises standards as necessary.
•Responsible for achieving operational objectives for the Packaging Department and for continuous improvements.
•Responsible for identification, justification and implementation of Departmental projects; ensures the participation, as necessary, of functional teams such as Engineering, Maintenance, Continuous Improvement, and/or Quality to execute such projects.
•Assists in the preparation of expense budgets for the Packaging Department and manages spend to meet cost targets.
•Responsible for cost containment within Packaging Department, including but not limited to:
oUtilizing all resources (facilities, human, equipment, technology, etc.) by meeting or exceeding the operational plan.
oExecuting all packaging activities according to approved standards (Routings, batch production record requirements, waste) and identifying root causes for variances experienced.
•Works in collaboration with the Engineering and Maintenance teams to assess OEE data and implement changes and/or new processes to improve packaging process efficiencies.
•Assists Engineering in the justification of acquisition of new technology and/or equipment, also assists in the preparation of capital budgets.
•Other duties as assigned.

•Incumbent must have a College diploma or University degree preferably, in a science or Engineering field applicable to pharmaceutical manufacturing operations.
•A minimum of 7 years of related work experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with a thorough knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and pharmaceutical regulations; at least 3 years of experience in a leadership/managerial capacity.
•Effective leadership skills with a proven ability to motivate and coach team members and facilitate individual work styles.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including computer skills, with the ability to generate spreadsheets, reports and presentations.
•Working knowledge of SAP and TrackWise are an asset.
•Flexible with the ability to adapt, respond quickly and manage change in a fast- paced environment.
