The Payroll Manager is responsible for the timely and accurate processing
and transmission of payroll for multiple locations. Payroll currently includes semimonthly, bi-weekly and weekly
payroll for hourly and salary employees and variable compensation programs. In addition to the preparation,
collection and review of payroll, responsibilities also include various reporting requirements.

Responsibilities
• Responsible for preparing, collection and verifying a semi-monthly payroll for all salaried employees in accordance with applicable provincial and federal legislation (employee full life cycle).
• Calculating and processing of gross to net payroll, taxable benefits, retroactive pay, vacation pay, overtime, severance, bonuses, shift differential and deductions such as garnishments, pension, etc.
• Responsible for coordinating and verifying weekly/bi-weekly payrolls for union and non-union employees in NS, BC, ON, and one USA location.
• Process the General Ledger transfers for all payrolls.
• Weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual calculation, remittance and reconciliation for all provincial Employer tax, CPP, EI WCB, and EHT accounts; Garnishments; Union dues; Donations; staff funds etc.
• Various monthly reports, journal entries, and Pension files prepared and submitted to internal and external
• Preparation of annual pension data return for defined benefit plan members.
• Various reports requiring various levels of data analysis; understanding of system setup in order to capture correct data.
• Administration and maintenance of all modules in payroll system
• Manage security access for all users.
• Other duties as required
Qualifications
• Minimum 5 years of payroll processing for multi provincial payrolls in a large organization with union experience.
• Experience and knowledge in processing USA payrolls is an asset.
• Working towards or completion of your Payroll Designation PCP or CPM is an asset.
• Proficient in MS Word, MS Outlook, and spreadsheet/database (MS Excel) is required.
• Working knowledge of industry payroll systems such as Avanti or ADP is preferred
• Executes with accuracy and timely in turning around data entry with minimal errors through a strong attention to
detail and good organizational skills.
• Effective communication skills both verbal and written to interact at all levels of the organization.
• Maturity to understand and respect the sensitivity and confidentiality of payroll matters.
• Knowledge of payroll compliance, provincial and federal employment legislation for Canada.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Strong Analytical skills in both data and system analysis.
• Ability to work independently as well as in a dynamic team environment.
