We are currently recruiting for a Project Accountant position in the Hamilton area. This is a permanent full-time position. Your typical day in this role would include preparing the financial-related portion of project start-up documents, creating and distributing all project-related billings and maintaining AR. The ideal individual will have experience working in a fast-paced environment, strong attention to detail, and be willing to help out wherever needed.

Responsibilities
- Create project accounts in the accounting system create project accounts in the accounting system
- Maintain financial portions of project-related records, including contracts and change orders
- Review financial components of contracts and ensure compliance with them
- Prepare financial-related portion of project start-up documents, including Certificates of Insurance, WSIB Clearance Certificates, bonds, etc.
- Prepare Installer and rental Purchase Orders (POs)
- Compare Installer and rental invoices to POs and adjust invoices or POs as necessary and approved
- Create and distribute all project-related billings to customers
- Prepare Statutory Declarations, Schedule of Values, etc.
- Respond to requests for more financial details from customers
- Maintain Accounts Receivable aging reports and review them with management
- Follow up with clients regarding unpaid invoices
- Confer with Project Managers to understand project issues which will affect invoicing, collections, etc.
- Discuss with Project Managers and management any opportunities for additional billings and ensure they are added to the Progress Billing
- Investigate project variances and discuss variance reports with management
- Report project profitability to management monthly
- Close out project accounts upon project completion, including preparation of warranties, if required
- Work with stakeholders to identify the average cost of materials
- Other project-related tasks as requested.
Qualifications
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Business, accounting, finance or a related field required.
- Detailed knowledge of project contracts and change order documents
- A minimum of three years of experience in project accounting in the construction or engineering industry.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
- Accuracy and attention to detail while working under tight deadlines.
- Assertive, comfortable communicating with various types of individuals.
- Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with corporate departments and key business partners.
- Ability to follow through and complete overlapping projects.
- Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills.
