Our client. a leader in the education industry is looking for a Business Architect for a contract starting mid August to help them design and document an implementation roadmap for the phased implementation of a Research Discovery Network, that includes a strong governance and service management model to steer and champion necessary change management activities.

Research Support Services (RSS) Program Business Architect

Current State and Project Background

The CIO and AVP (IT Services) have identified several high priority research value chain related initiatives. In collaboration with other institutional stakeholders, these initiatives will

(a) improve researcher and administrator navigation and access to the vast array of research support services available to enable the research community, and

(b) more effectively and reliably identify, keep current and make discoverable, important research and researcher profile information for access and consumption internally across campus, and externally to partners and the public.

This statement of work covers the development and initial implementation of the first of these initiatives, the Research Discovery Network (RDN).

This work will be conducted collaboratively with stakeholders under the sponsorship of the Office of Vice-Principal (Research), and represents the actioning of a year-long strategy and design project that formed the initial phases of a broader Research Support Services Program.

The successful release of the RDN is dependent on a well-conceived and broadly supported implementation plan, including a strong governance and service management model to steer and champion necessary change management activities. The output of this work will provide the initial iteration of the RDN and will put in place the necessary organizational systems and practices to sustain the solution into the future.
Deliverables and Objectives:

1) In collaboration with the Manager, Solution Engineering (or his/her designate), the RSS Program business architect will be responsible for:

a. Designing and documenting an implementation roadmap for the phased implementation of a Research Discovery Network, to facilitate the discovery of Queen’s University researchers and research:
i. Clearly articulate a governance framework that will support the Research Discovery Network implementation;
ii. Develop an integration plan to populate an initial set of 500 researcher profiles;
iii. Develop a change management plan to guide the necessary changes in organizational processes and practices.

Perform all work under the direction of the CIO. Regular meetings will be required to ensure the expected outcomes are achieved.

The ideal candidate will have over 10 years relevant experience that includes prior experience developing strategy and architecture in a higher education environment or similar context. Knowledge of research support services, service modeling and the academic research lifecycle is an advantage.
