Reporting to the Manager, Emergency Management, and working closely with a Sr. Business Continuity Specialist in the Technical Centre, the contract Business Continuity Specialist assists business Groups across the company with their maintaining and exercising their business continuity plans. The contract Business Continuity Specialist will provide corporate-wide subject matter expertise, guidance and support. The emergency management program contains elements of emergency preparedness, response and business continuity that are driven by regulatory compliance and best practice program requirements.

Responsibilities
What you’ll do
• Support the maintenance and continual improvement of the corporate Business Continuity procedure and associated templates
• Maintain corporate-wide business continuity data and extrapolate statistical and performance indicators to improve Business Continuity preparedness and response capabilities
• Migrate the current business continuity plans to the Service Now Business Continuity module
• Partner with business units and corporate departments across the company to conduct an annual review of business continuity plans and preparedness
• Lead in the development and facilitation of comprehensive continuity tabletops and functional exercises for a wide variety of internal stakeholders ranging from field and control center personnel, corporate departments to executive leadership
• Aid in ensuring corporate compliance with federal, provincial/state and local regulations, professional standards and company best practices
• Provide subject matter expertise and potentially lead efforts in response to Business Continuity activations triggered by a real-life event or threat. Scope may include - but is not limited to - maintaining critical functions, dependency coordination, establishing contingency plans, and recovery efforts
Additional Role Requirements
• Driving a motor vehicle is an essential job function of this position. Following a conditional offer of employment, the Company will check the motor vehicle records of any job applicant where driving is an essential job function
• Cross border travel (CA/US/MX) with a valid passport
• The ability to travel up to approximately 30% of the time
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
• 5+ years of relevant experience, preferably in a business continuity role in the private OR public sector
• Disaster Recovery Institute (DRI) Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP), or Certificate of the Business Continuity Institute (BCI – CBCI)
• Experience in developing and implementing user-friendly business continuity programs
• Experience conducting risk assessments and completion of Business Impact Analyses (BIAs)
• Strong customer service and client relations background
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written
• Highly effective organization and time management skills with the ability to plan, organize, prioritize and execute activities
• Strong technical tool acumen enabling rapid migration of existing plans into the new tools
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience implementing the Service Now BCM module or administering plans in the module
• Degree or qualifications in Emergency Management or other applicable discipline such as Public Safety, Project Management, Risk Management, Environmental Science, etc.
• Comprehensive understanding of relevant industry standards (e.g. ISO 22301; NFPA/CSA 1600; ANSI/ASIS.SPC.1:2009; etc.)
• Experience and/or understanding of pipelines and oil/gas facilities
• Incident Command System certification (i.e. 300 or higher; role-specific training such as Planning Section Chief, IC, etc.)
• Ability to manage diverse issues while away from a traditional office setting
• Ability to facilitate dialogue and manage conflict using tact and diplomacy
• Experience responding to a range of business continuity threats and emergencies
• Experience working closely with or in an emergency services agency
