Responsibilities
• Reporting to the Director, Security Program, the Business Systems Analyst will utilize their
knowledge of business objectives, processes, products, information security, and technology to
work with various teams in information security to solicit requirements ensuring that the
solution(s) being delivered meets the success criteria set out for the project and that the project
provides the value and return on investment.
• More strategically, the Business Systems Analyst will be responsible for understanding the
objectives of the security functions and leverage best practices and methodology to reflect the
required solutions.
• Gather, document, examine and manage business requirements, work effort, understand
participate and reflect cost estimates and impact during different phases of the project lifecycle.
• Manage business requirement expectations and alignment to the project success criteria. This
involves managing/facilitating business requirements sessions, conducting interviews, producing
business analysis related documentation, including functional and non-functional business
requirements and specifications, current and future state processes and workflows, solution
specifications, impact analysis of new changes, and maintaining and/or creating documentation.
• Work with the Delivery Office and Project Managers to provide support for Security (Cyber +
Physical), Risk and Crisis Management (SRC).
• Apply business requirements gathering and analysis techniques to develop quality business
requirements, and facilitate the communication between all impacted areas to address issues
• Perform gap analysis (is-map / should-map) assessments and requirement validation to analyze
data and derive complex business logic
• Ensure written requirements are clear, understandable, audience appropriate, traceable, and
accurately capture the key information required for a quality solution that meets the success
criteria
• Participate fully as a member of the team by supporting a work environment that promotes
continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, customer service, quality, innovation, and
teamwork
• Work with the Project Manager to assist with managing of delivery of projects through
initiation, estimating, work planning, analysis, design, construction, deployment, and post
project review
Qualifications
• Previous experience working in business analysis role is required (In the Information Security
space an additional asset)
• Ability to guide and keep a group on track, recognizing issues that need to be dealt with, and
ensure everyone is heard
• Ability to break down high level business requirements into more detail by questioning and
probing for clarification
• Ability to gather information by applying approaches or styles applicable to the situation
• Use questioning techniques and objective listening to clarify expectations and assumptions
• Work to prevent problems or decrease impact of problems when possible
• Work with others to reach solutions
• Assets:
• Certified Business Analysis Profession (CBAP) Accreditation
• Good understanding of systems development methodologies
• Technical writing
• Project Management understanding (i.e., Understands project requirements, working to
successful project implementation)
• Software Quality Assurance understanding (i.e., understands and applies quality/testing
concepts and techniques)
Competencies:
• Solid knowledge of business analysis principles and best practices (i.e., business process
modeling, conceptual data modeling)
• Solid analysis, organization, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work with customers to understand and act based on their needs, assess risks, and
achieve a valued result
• Ability to express ideas, thoughts, and information so that it can be understood by others
• Ability to understand and accurately interpret the meaning, purpose, and importance of verbal
and non-verbal messages
• Use of sound and accurate judgment, support and explains reasons for decisions and assist in
the making of timely decisions
• Maintains effectiveness while managing competing demands, dealing with frequent change,
delays or unexpected events
• Writes logically and concisely ensuring meaning is clear and presented in a way that meets the
user's needs. Applies plain language principles, proper grammar and sentence structure
• Creates an open and trusting environment by sharing information in a timely manner
• Innovative; looks for new approaches to the way things are done
• Ability to work in a multi-site environment.
