Senior Mechanical Engineer

This is a Senior Mechanical Engineer opportunity in BC. with the largest power distribution organization in British Columbia and been recognized for excellence and been named one of B.C.’s Top Employers and one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers for four years in a row.
This is a full time, one-year contract located in Burnaby, BC. We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support a variety of projects to relieve the engineering team. The projects will be largely maintenance and replacement projects for stations equipment. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will provide engineering, estimating, planning, and quality management services for medium complexity projects and/or operations safely, with quality, within budget, and on time.


Senior Mechanical Engineer Responsibilities:
• A minimum eight (8) years of experience in a relevant engineering field or equivalent.
• Be registered with EGBC or a P.Eng who has worked in BC.
• Must have a Mechanical engineering background; Experience in transmission - stations
• Experience working on hydro electrical utility projects is an asset
• Assist project or operations management to meet safety, cost, quality, and time objectives by proposing changes in plans and estimated costs, recommending payment for work completed by contractors, preparing progress reports, coordinating work schedules and other similar tasks.
• This role requires experience with the design of electrical utility substations with operating voltages from 12kV to 500kV and demonstrated experience working with utility design solutions a in an electric utility environment.
• This position is needed to help with an increasing work load in capital project, emergency replacement and restoration work, asset management strategic OMA work programs and Owners Engineer review work.
• The position requires specialized knowledge of a large breadth of equipment, so the ideal candidate would have operational, design and manufacturing experience in HVAC, standby power systems, fire protection, and plumbing.
• Prepare project documentation and deliverables in accordance with project and Engineering Design Practices (i.e. evaluation reports, specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis', calculations, hazard logs, test plans).
• Prepare design work packages including scope, duration, and level of effort estimates.
• Prepare signed/sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record (PoR) in accordance with EGBC Design Practices.
• Provide technical assistance and construction support in the field, and undertake field reviews as required by EGBC.
• Create designs, drawings, specifications and maintenance standards for Substation mechanical systems including:
o Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioners (HVAC) systems for numerous types of buildings
o Fire protection including suppression system and passive protection systems
o Diesel generators for substation back-up power
o Plumbing systems for washrooms and various
o Other miscellaneous mechanical systems as required
• Create designs, drawings, specifications and maintenance standards for Telecom mechanical systems including:
o Diesel generators for standby and prime power sites
o Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems for Telecom buildings
o Fire suppression systems
o Other miscellaneous mechanical systems as required


Senior Mechanical Engineer Skills and Qualifications:
• Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with Engineers & Geoscientists BC
• Intermediate English skills for professional environment, written and spoken
• Familiarity with CAD systems and drawing standards
• Ability to use standard industry design/analysis software
• Intermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
• Ability to provide technical directions to junior engineers
• Ability to manage design tasks including scope, schedule and cost
• Ability to find engineering solutions that add value and to reach consensus
• Ability to communicate efficiently including verbal and technical writing in the English language, analytical, interpersonal communications and presentation skills
• Experience in project management including estimating, cost control, and project administration
