We are seeking a Senior R&D Manager for a high tech medical device manufacturing client of ours in the Vancouver area.

The R&D Manager will lead the team to develop cutting edge technologies and products that will help surgeons and hospitals improve patient care. This is a great opportunity to create innovations that will truly make a difference in people’s lives.

The ideal candidate has hands-on expertise in electronics engineering, such as FPGA or high speed digital embedded designs, along with demonstrated excellence leading and managing a hardware focused R&D team.


•Full leadership and management responsibilities for a multi-site electronics engineering team, including hiring, coaching, employee development, performance management, and succession planning.
•Provide technical expertise to team members and other parts of the organization as needed.
•Collaborate with a product management and technical architects to build technical and product roadmaps.
•Build relationships with strategic vendors in order to jointly develop and evaluate technology.
•Collaborate with other engineering areas to ensure products are developed in a timely, effective, and efficient manner.
•Ensure compliance with all regulatory and compliance activities.
•Develop annual budget and operate within budget and organizational guidelines and philosophy.
•Act as the final release authority on engineering drawings and other documentation.
•Lead special engineering projects.


•Undergraduate degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering. Advanced engineering degree desired.
•At least 5 years experience working as an engineer with HW products.
•At least 2 years of management experience for a hardware-focused R&D team.
•Experience in medical devices development is preferred but not required.
•Technical skills in one or more areas of electrical and computer engineering such as high speed digital and analog design, FPGA and image sensor design, digital/analog control systems, embedded design, and/or PCBA design.
•Ability to understand and motivate a diverse team (culture and level of seniority)
•Ability to make sound technical decisions throughout the product development life cycle.
•Ability to make sound team management decisions (e.g. training, coaching/counseling, professional development, performance management)
•Ability to make sound decisions regarding compliance issues, product reliability, and analysis of testing methodologies.
•Some travel is required (less than 25%)
