Senior Structural Engineer

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


• Effectively lead and supervise structural design teams and sub-consultants, and co-ordinate structural project work with internal and external teams.

• Responsible for preparation of design calculations, specifications and other technical documents, as well as technical review of detailed design drawings of various structural projects.

• Manage and mentor subordinate engineers and CAD/BIM staff including input to the career development, technical direction, training recommendations, coaching and performance reviews. Demonstrate a high level of interpersonal and leadership skills, and participate actively in company meetings and events.

• Apply strong technical knowledge and experience in structural analysis and design in new and renovations/upgrades to existing buildings. Concrete and steel design skills are mandatory. Additional design skills deemed desirable include: post-tensioned and prestressed concrete, light gage steel, light and heavy-timber framing, aluminum, glass, stainless steel and FPR composites.

• Travel, as required, to carry out site inspections and fulfill other contract administration responsibilities.

• Positively contribute to the development of client relationships and new business opportunities including the preparation of proposals, project cost estimates and attendance to sales meetings.

• At all times, effectively manage clients and client expectations in a professional manner. Ensure client requirements and schedules are met or exceeded on a regular basis.

KEY REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum 10 years design experience.

• University Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from a recognized University (post graduate degree is an asset).

• Registered with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (additional registrations are an asset).

• Consulting and project management experience.

• Extensive experience dealing with clients on technical issues.

• Strong knowledge of analysis/design and standard software, such as CSI Programs (ETABS, SAFE and SAP2000), RAM Steel, spSlab, spColumn, MS Office, Bluebeam, etc.

• Excellent communication skills including written and verbal.
