job description

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with strong design and process automation experience for a well established high tech manufacturing client of ours in the Victoria area.


Responsibilities:

-Convert internal and external customer ideas into well documented designs
-Develop jigs, fixtures and tooling to improve safety, improve quality, and reduce cost
-Develop automated and semi-automated devices for improved quality and throughput Design for manufacturing, quality and cost
-Use shop tools to fabricate components of the design and assemble same, as required
-Create parts lists and bills of material
-Work with Production Technicians, Process Engineers, and R&D Scientists to understand process requirements and develop and implement solutions
-Assist with the release to production of new product designs
-Manage direct reports, including; assigning tasks/jobs, reviewing work load and adjusting as necessary, managing time (vacation approvals, timesheet approvals, etc),managing performance (annual reviews, discipline, etc)
-Provide guidance of established of established standards, best practices and mentoring as required to the team
-Ensure the team training requirements are kept up to date.
-Ensure team completes administrative duties as required

Qualifications:

-Five or more years’ experience in process automation and mechanical and electromechanical product design in a manufacturing environment.
-Experience with Solid Works solid modelling or other 3D CAD software (e.g., Inventor, Catia, etc.)

Experience in several of the below disciplines:
-electrical/mechanical systems
-motion control - linear, continuous, rotary, servo, stepping, etc.
-sensors - ultrasonic, optics, acoustic, thermal, proximity, vibration, etc.
-material properties, sheet metal work and welding
-electronic bread boarding including soldering
-basic circuit design

-Must be able to demonstrate practical hands-on skills in mechanical/electrical fabrication and assembly
-Experience with MS Office programs
-Electronic layout experience is an asset
-Strong appreciation for QA and experience with ISO9001
-Experience working within a well-structured document management system
