We are seeking an experienced Supplier Quality Engineer for a world-class high tech manufacturing client of ours in the Vancouver area.

Responsibilities:

-The supplier quality engineer will define and implement a Supplier Quality and Supplier Development business process
-The supplier quality engineer is to review and assess manufacturing procedures, typically by visiting supplier facilities and observing their manufacturing environment.
-While conducting site visits and reviewing incoming products, supplier quality engineer also conducts tests and assessments on batches of products to identify recurring errors or quality issues.
-Supplier quality engineer maintains detailed reports related to supplier quality. These reports tend to contain vital information including defect rates and areas within the manufacturing process that result in flaws.
-Supplier quality engineer provides technical guidance and advice to suppliers and to decision-makers within the organization.
-Supplier quality engineer serves as the liaison between the internal team and suppliers.
-Ensures the consistent application of inspections and tests. Reviews and analyzes the results of the inspection tests and helps to determine the outcome of products that are not accepted.
-Supervises and participates in the development and the initiation of the techniques for inspection, testing and evaluation of incoming materials.
-Evaluates techniques and recommends changes. Works with supply chain, manufacturing and engineering to define the procedures and quality standards.
-Verifies and ensures the availability of adequate suppliers for new products or processes.
-Supervises and participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of studies of quality systems which identify the characteristics of suppliers. Audits suppliers in their facilities to support the raw material acquisition process, evaluating their quality systems and processes. Responds to technical questions related to quality, long term feasibility or supplier quality certifications.
-Applies statistical techniques to analyze supplier performance within the company or in the supplier’s facilities.
-Participates in the development of suppliers by means of training, consulting and providing suggestions to improve their performance.
-Assists with the development and maintenance of manual and computerized databases of purchased items to provide information and trends related to quality, costs and competitive services.
-Drives the development and implements the management of special programs to recognize and assure the use of suppliers who maintain established quality, reliability and cost standards. Reports internally when significant changes occur in performance indicators so that corrective actions can be taken.



Qualifications:

-Degree in science or engineering discipline and 5+ years of progressive experience as a Supplier Quality Engineer
-ASQ Certified Quality Engineer designation is preferred
-ASQ Certified Quality Auditor is beneficial
-General quality background knowledge - understanding of measurement techniques, measurement systems analysis, inspection sampling plans, quality tools, 8D problem solving and root cause analysis
-Knowledge of APQP concepts including PPAP, DFMEA and PFMEA are preferred
-Knowledge of engineering materials, coatings and adhesives, mechanical design, and various manufacturing and fabrication processes are beneficial
-Technical skills and knowledge – requiring thorough knowledge of technical elements of manufacturing and engineering, and the ability to identify flaws in processes or products
-Quality assurance skills – as supplier quality engineers need to inspect products and manufacturing environments to identify potential issues
-Statistical analysis – need strong statistical analysis skills, and should be able to rigorously assess and analyze supplier data along with internal metrics
-Manufacturing and engineering skills – knowledgeable about manufacturing processes and engineering principles in order to make informed judgments -and recommendations
-Process enhancement – able to provide guidance on improving process efficiency while maintaining a high level of quality, safety, and reliability
-Excellent communication in both written and spoken English
-Strong record keeping, organizational and analytical skills
-Strong ability and track record of influencing across an organization and with suppliers
-Proven ability to manage challenges while continuing to meet deadlines and achieve goals
-Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced team environment
-Strong time management skills and multi-tasking capabilities with the ability to prioritize
-Basic understanding of supply chain and operations
-Experience in managing a global supply base
-Exceptional leadership, negotiation and communication skills
-Ability to travel 20% of the time
-Self-motivated, detailed and highly organized
-Ability to working independently, and, in a team environment
