job description

Are you a tax or accounting professional with previous experience in a corporate environment? Have you previously been responsible for reviewing/preparing Canadian or US Tax documentation? Would you enjoy an opportunity to develop your skills in a leading and globally recognized firm?

If so we have an excellent opportunity for you! We are currently looking for a Tax Assistant to support our client, one of the big 4 accounting firms, in their Downtown Toronto office. In this role you will work full time hours on a 3.5 month assignment, earning a rate of $18 per hour. As a Tax Assistant you will be responsible for:

• E-Filing of US and Canadian returns and forms on behalf of the Client to meet tax filing deadlines
• If an e-filed return is rejected, the Assembler calls CRA to inquire what is the issue and corrections required to successfully file the Client return
• For the US/Canadian returns, the Assemblers prepare the tax equalization with transmittal letter using tax software (T1 TaxPrep or CCH Axcess) for the Taxpayer, spouse and/or dependents whether it is an e-file return or paper filed as final packages to deliver to Client
• The Assemblers use a program called “Canada GES File Index and Position Summary (FIPS)” and/or “Assembly Request Tool (ART)” we use these programs for Client tax return information. The Assembler follows the instructions from the FIPS/ART when assembling a return. If there is any missing or mismatched information from FIPS to the return…etc. Assembly will contact the preparer to make the correction, prior to delivering to the Client
• Assemblers use tax software to print out the returns in order to prepare the return package. T1 TaxPrep for Canadian returns and CCH Axcess for US returns. We use the same software to e-file US and Canadian on behalf on the Clients
• Assembly shares a generic mailbox “GES National Assembly” mailbox to receive all requests from across Canada. We assemble the returns in PDF and post them on the GES Return Tracker and/or print out a copy to courier or hand deliver to the Client
• Returns are generated from the software to one PDF. Therefore, the Assembler will need to extract the returns or forms accurately so that the Client return can be filed with CRA and/or IRS
• Some Clients’ courier or drop off their tax slips/documents to the office. Therefore, the Assembler will have to sort through the tax slips for the US/Canadian tax returns, then scan and post them on the GES Return Tracker
