    Our client is seeking a Technical Specialist ( Mechanical ) that will provide technical services and subject matter expertise advice for designated system and equipment repair, operations and maintenance activities within the Technical Specialists area of expertise and authorization (Marine Systems).

    The Technical Specialist - Mechanical is accountable to the AJISS Engineering Services Lead and is required to:
    • Support the AOPS & JSS Program Engineers;
    • Support the Halifax Waterfront team; and
    • Support the LCMM & Engineering section

    Responsibilities
    • Providing support to various internal stakeholders by conducting a range of technical investigations (both desktop and on board);
    • Liaising with OEMs, service providers and ship operators to optimize existing maintenance schedules;
    • Contribute to engineering change proposals and developing solutions to technical problems;
    • Reviewing technical documentation and proposing improvement;
    • Overseeing technical service activities for designated vessels and/or systems, to ensure materiel readiness objectives for the Platforms are being achieved;
    • Developing a good working relationships internally and within the customer's organization to ensure coordination and rapid resolution of issues;
    • Investigating technical problems, alternative material support, obsolescence issues;
    • Preparing reports such as pre and post refit condition assessments, technical investigations, post maintenance ITP, OPDEF close-outs, installation set-to-work and Physical Condition Audits; and
    • Assisting in troubleshooting with Ship Staff and Service Providers.

    Physical Demands

    • Mix of office work and work in dockyards and onboard Naval ships;
    • May be required to undertake inspections in machinery spaces of Naval ships involving bending and twisting;


    Qualifications
    • Possess a minimum 3- year technical program diploma in a marine technical field offered by a recognized technical institute or certified as a technologist by a recognized provincial, state, or federal (national) licensing body in a relevant field or certified to the QL-6B level of military technical training;
    • Possess a minimum of 5 years of demonstrated technical professional work experience in the marine sector within the last 10 years;
    • Strong communication skills (oral and written).
    • Fluent in English;
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Strong working knowledge in the maintenance, operation, design and/or troubleshooting of a wide range of marine systems;
    • Previous experience working within the Royal Canadian Navy or Canadian Coast Guard;
    • Familiar with certification requirements including but not limited to Classification Society, SOLAS/IMO, IEEE, CSA, Naval Ship Code, and DND regulations is an asset.
    • Fluent in French (desirable as a first or second language with English)
