As the Controller, you will be a key business partner to the General Manager, providing robust financial oversight and guidance. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and analysis of the division's financial records to support strategic initiatives and reduce operational costs. This role demands a hands-on leader who can manage the full accounting cycle, develop and enforce internal controls, and lead the budgeting and forecasting processes. You will be instrumental in translating complex financial data into actionable insights for the operational and management teams. Responsibilities
- Oversee all division accounting operations, including financial reporting, inventory valuation, and cost statement preparation.
- Direct the monthly financial close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in accordance with corporate policies.
- Lead the development and analysis of business plans, quarterly forecasts, and annual budgets, coordinating data from all departments.
- Provide detailed monthly variance analysis of financial results against historical performance, budgets, and forecasts to identify key trends and improvement opportunities.
- Present financial statements and performance metrics to division management, offering strategic insights and recommendations.
- Establish, monitor, and enforce a strong internal control environment to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
- Partner with operational teams to review capital projects, calculating expected benefits and tracking post-implementation performance.
- Act as the primary financial advisor to the General Manager and the local leadership team.
- Manage and develop the on-site finance & accounting functions, fostering a high-performance team environment.
- Generate in-depth analytical reports to support strategic decision-making and operational efficiency goals.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation is strongly preferred.
- Five to eight years of progressive and practical experience in cost and general accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial management.
- Significant experience within a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment is essential.
- Proven track record in a senior accounting or financial leadership role.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and able to intermittently travel within Canada
- Exceptional leadership and team management capabilities with a proven ability to mentor and develop staff.
- Advanced proficiency in financial software and systems, including ERP (SAP preferred), Power BI, and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
