We are seeking a Senior Technology Architect for a critical 5-month engagement in Toronto. This role is focused on the modernization of I&IT technology standards across a large portfolio of transportation, maintenance, and operational sites. Responsibilities
Standard Modernization: Lead the significant update of I&IT technology specifications, focusing on two-way communications (intercoms/PA), access control, device operations, and cabling infrastructure.
Architectural Governance: Author and gain endorsement for technology architecture documents that transition legacy systems to modern, cloud-integrated, and corporate-aligned environments.
Compliance Oversight: Review and contribute to designs to ensure strict adherence to AODA, TSSA safety regulations (elevating devices), and multi-jurisdictional transportation building codes.
Secure Automation: Implement secure open-standard protocols (BACnet, Modbus, OPC, ONVIF) and cybersecurity frameworks, specifically ISA/IEC 62443, for distributed control systems.
System Integration: Oversee the integration of 3rd party monitoring and support across multiple remote sites, covering surveillance, radio, VoIP, AFIL, and intrusion detection.
Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with internal and external partners to write technical specifications, ensuring they enable strategic design planning and long-term manageability.
Qualifications
Regulatory Expertise: 7+ years of experience with building codes, TSSA safety regulations for elevators (B44), and AODA standards within a transportation context.
Large-Scale Implementations: Proven track record of completing at least 3 large-site implementations involving control systems with 500+ distributed control points.
Systems Architecture: 7+ years authoring and gaining endorsement for complex technology architecture documents and technical specifications.
Industrial Protocols: 7+ years of experience with secure access and automation protocols, including ISA/IEC 62443, ISO, and ONVIF.
Building Automation: Experience implementing at least 2 building operations systems with over 500 control points each.
Communication Systems: Hands-on experience with two-way communications, including specialized elevator intercoms, radio, and VoIP.
Desired Skills & Experience:
Hands-on Design: Design and implementation experience for monitoring systems including Fire Alarms, CCTV, UPS/Generators, Gas Detection, and Payment Systems.
Technical Breadth: Knowledge of networking and cabling products from vendors such as Cisco, HP, Panduit, Aruba, and Juniper.
Cybersecurity: Strong focus on industrial digital control systems (ICS) and programmable logic controllers (PLC) security.
Service Management: Familiarity with ITIL processes, SLA definition, and performance measurement methods across multi-domain environments.
Public Sector: Previous experience within the Ontario Public Service (OPS) or broader public sector is considered a strong asset.
Deliverables:
Technology Design Specifications: Updated and comprehensive I&IT technology standards and specifications.
Enterprise Architecture Artifacts: Conceptual, logical, and physical process/data models for integrated sites.
Implementation Roadmap: Strategic plans for the decoupling of legacy systems and the migration to open-standard architectures.
