We are seeking a versatile and proactive Mainframe Software Developer to join a premier organization in the financial and insurance services sector. Responsibilities
Application Development & Maintenance: Write, refactor, and review COBOL and JCL code for both batch and online applications.
Production Support & Defect Resolution: Rapidly diagnose and fix software bugs across the software development lifecycle to minimize impact on operations.
Nightly Batch Monitoring: Participate in a periodic on-call rotation to troubleshoot and resolve overnight batch process issues.
Project & Ad-Hoc Delivery: Analyze requirements, estimate effort, and execute solutions for routine service requests as well as major multi-phase projects.
System Implementations: Coordinate and execute scheduled off-hours and weekend deployment releases.
Qualifications
5+ years of hands-on mainframe development experience on the Z/OS MVS platform using COBOL, JCL, and TSO/ISPF.
Strong familiarity with main stay mainframe tools and schedulers (e.g., CICS, VSAM, DFSORT, Control-M or similar, IBM Developer tools).
Proven ability to work independently in an agile, multi-tasking environment.
Comfort participating in on-call rotations and scheduled weekend deployments.
Assets:
Background in Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance, or experience with legacy core engines like Halcion/Paxus and Supra databases.
Exposure to modern DevOps and integration tech (e.g., CICS Web Services, Java, REXX, Git, Jenkins, XML/SOAP).
Our client operates in Canada. The company takes all reasonable steps to limit the number of positions in Quebec that require knowledge of a language other than French, and only requires it when necessary and its existing bilingual employees are unable to perform these duties. Based on an assessment conducted by our client, it has been determined that this position requires candidates to be fluent in English (both spoken and written). In particular, this position will require the employee to interact with centralized internal departments (e.g., Operations / HR / Finance / Legal / Contracts / Sales) that support the organization in Canada and that do not speak French.
