We are seeking a highly versatile and proactive System Administrator for a contract opportunity based in Toronto. Designed for a well-rounded technical professional, this position bridges end-user desktop support with core systems and network administration. Operating within a hybrid work model, you will manage day-to-day troubleshooting, oversee user account lifecycles, maintain network security appliances, and drive ticket resolution using modern service desk platforms. This position is ideal for an experienced administrator who thrives in a nimble IT environment, balancing hands-on user assistance with infrastructure monitoring, inventory control, and data protection routines.
Location: Toronto, ON
Assignment Type: Hybrid (3 days per week onsite)
Contract Duration: 3 months
Schedule: 7 hours per day (35 hours per week)

Responsibilities
End-User Support & Service Desk Management
Install, configure, troubleshoot, and provide hands-on user assistance for PCs, laptops, printers, and wireless mobile devices.
Maintain and manage the Freshdesk ticketing platform, ensuring rapid triage, clear communication, and timely resolution of all inbound support requests.
Establish and refine an efficient, organization-wide shared file access system, verifying user permissions align with role-based data access guidelines.
Systems, Network & Security Administration
Administer and maintain user accounts, permissions, and access controls across Microsoft 365 and SharePoint ecosystems.
Perform routine maintenance, software patches, and system updates across endpoint devices, servers, and core infrastructure components.
Manage and monitor network infrastructure—including routers, switches, Fortinet firewalls, and VPN connections—to guarantee secure, high-availability connectivity.
Execute regular network and security audits, managing threat protection measures to safeguard systems against cyber risks.
Develop and maintain disaster recovery frameworks, data backup routines, and verification procedures to ensure total data integrity.
Asset Management & Documentation
Track, maintain, and optimize hardware and software inventories, planning equipment rollover cycles for aging hardware and managing software license counts.
Author and maintain technical documentation, system configuration runbooks, and comprehensive hardware/software inventory records.
Assist IT leadership in evaluating strategic technology plans, infrastructure improvements, and operational project goals.
Perform additional technical duties as assigned to support overall organizational success.
Qualifications
Professional Experience: 5 to 7 years of progressive, hands-on experience in IT support, system administration, and network management.
Technical Ecosystem Mastery: Working knowledge operating within Microsoft 365, SharePoint online environments, and Fortinet firewall appliances.
Ticketing & Service Management: Proven hands-on experience utilizing IT ticketing systems (specifically Freshdesk) for issue tracking, asset management, and user support.
Networking & Security Hardware: Practical experience configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining enterprise routers, switches, firewalls, and secure VPN connections.
Endpoint & Server Diagnostics: Strong proficiency troubleshooting Windows PC hardware, laptops, peripherals, mobile wireless connections, and server operating systems.
Asset & Data Governance: Functional understanding of software licensing management, IT asset tracking, backup/disaster recovery procedures, and security auditing.
Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication skills with a customer-centric mindset, capable of translating technical solutions into clear instructions for users at all organizational levels.
