Are you an organized, detail-oriented logistics professional looking to take the next step in your career with a thriving industry leader? Randstad is seeking a proactive City Planner for a 4–6 month contract position supporting a dynamic logistics terminal operation in the Greater Vancouver area. As a global leader in talent solutions, Randstad connects top talent with exceptional opportunities across the country. In this vital manufacturing & logistics operational role, you will be responsible for setting up the entire next day's city pickup and delivery (P&D) operations, orchestrating drivers, equipment, and dock teams to guarantee peak operational efficiency.
...
Working an afternoon shift (11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Monday through Friday), the City Planner serves as the central operational bridge between afternoon dock operations and next-day delivery execution. In this role within our specialized manufacturing & logistics division, you will monitor inbound freight, coordinate tractor and 5-ton fleet capacities, assign routes, and schedule dock labour. Your command of Transportation Management Systems (TMS)—specifically TruckMate—and your deep understanding of Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) city planning will ensure our client's terminal runs smoothly, on time, and with zero service interruptions.
Because this role is based in British Columbia, the primary language of daily business operations, software interfaces, carrier communications, and internal documentation is English. Bilingual proficiency is always a strong asset across our national client network, but it is not a mandatory requirement for this specific Vancouver terminal opportunity.
Advantages
• Competitive hourly pay rate tailored to your industry expertise and LTL planning background.
• Stable, predictable afternoon schedule: Monday to Friday, 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM (no overnight shift rotation).
• Fast-track onboarding with an immediate start date for a key 4–6 month contract assignment.
• Opportunity to work with a reputable supply chain and freight leader in a modern terminal environment.
• Dedicated support from Randstad’s specialized manufacturing & logistics recruitment team throughout your assignment.
• Weekly direct-deposit pay structure with comprehensive holiday and vacation pay accruals.
Responsibilities
• Plan next-day city pickup and delivery (P&D) routes, appointment deliveries, driver start times, and equipment requirements using internal mapping tools and TMS platforms.
• Coordinate capacity across company 5-ton trucks, tractors, regional drivers, and overflow contracted carriers to handle scheduled appointments and high-volume freight pickups.
• Monitor all inbound trailers and interline tag updates, obtain real-time ETAs from carrier partners, and update tracking records in TruckMate accurately.
• Plan and adjust dock labour schedules based on inbound freight manifests, volumes, appointment requirements, and in-bond considerations.
• Prepare and distribute critical daily planning documentation, including the next-day appointment sheet, high-service-level (HSL) reports, 5-ton schedules, and tractor/dock labour plans.
• Review, organize, and verify paperwork, bills of lading (BOLs), inbound manifests, and customs bond-cleared freight for smooth morning and graveyard shift handoffs.
• Coordinate specialized delivery accounts, including overnight scheduled freight, dedicated retail accounts, and time-sensitive consignee windows.
• Liaise closely with dispatchers and dock supervisors to proactively identify service concerns, bottlenecks, and ensure the following day’s city plan is fully executable.
• Maintain accurate interline tag records, daily planning archives, and ensure all printed plans and manifests are ready for graveyard supervision and morning dispatch.
Qualifications
• 1 to 3+ years of experience in dispatch, city planning, load planning, or logistics coordination within an LTL or freight transportation environment.
• Hands-on familiarity with TruckMate or similar enterprise transportation management systems (TMS).
• Proven expertise in LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) freight planning, dispatch operations, and multi-stop urban routing.
• Solid understanding of local Greater Vancouver geography, commercial trucking routes, bridge restrictions, and municipal delivery bylaws.
• Strong fleet and equipment capacity forecasting skills across tractors, trailers, and 5-ton units.
• Demonstrated ability to calculate dock labour hours and fleet capacity against incoming manifest volumes and transit times.
• Familiarity with freight documentation, bills of lading, in-bond shipments, and customs clearance procedures.
• Fast, accurate problem-solving and critical-thinking skills under tight operational deadlines.
• Clear, professional verbal and written communication skills for cross-shift handoffs and carrier coordination.
• Proficiency in office productivity tools, including Microsoft Excel, web-based carrier portals, and digital manifest systems.
• Legally authorized to work in Canada for the full duration of the 4–6 month contract.
• Availability to work in-person at the Vancouver terminal during the scheduled 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM shift.
