Level Up Your Skills: 2nd/3rd Year Apprentices Wanted (Gouging Specialist)
Are you a 2nd or 3rd-year Welding Apprentice looking to master the "dark arts" of heavy fabrication?
If you’ve got a steady hand and want to become the go-to expert for precision prep, this is your chance to rack up high-quality hours in a fast-paced Nisku shop.
...
We are looking for Carbon Arc Gougers who want to bridge the gap between "just a job" and "mastering the craft." You’ll be working on heavy-wall pressure vessels—the kind of work that demands perfection and builds a bulletproof resume.
Why This is the Ultimate Apprentice Move:
Master the Groove: Get specialized experience in Carbon Arc Cutting (CAC-A) that most guys don't master until later in their careers.
Hours & Experience: Perfect for hitting your apprenticeship milestones while working on high-spec ASME code projects.
The Schedule: Work hard for 4 days, then disappear for 3. Every single week.
Precision Training: You aren't just "grinding"—you’re prepping seams for X-ray and UT inspection. This is where you learn what a "sound weld" actually looks like.
Advantages
Shift: Monday – Thursday 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM (4x10s)
Wage: $26 – $38/hr (Aggressive rates based on your experience and proficiency)
Location: Nisku, AB (Reliable transport is a must)
The Perk: Weekly pay via Randstad and a permanent 3-day weekend.
Responsibilities
Back-Gouging: Removing the "root" to ensure 100% penetration on heavy-wall seams.
Defect Hunting: Clearing out slag and porosity so the final weld passes X-ray every time.
Shop Flow: Keeping the sub-arc operators and fitters moving by staying ahead of the prep work.
Blueprint Basics: Reading shop drawings and following ASME standards for pressure vessel prep.
Qualifications
Gouging Grit: You’ve spent time behind the torch and know how to maintain a consistent depth without blowing through the wall.
Apprentice Status: Currently registered 2nd or 3rd-year Welder.
Thick Skin: It’s hot, it’s noisy, and it’s heavy work. You’re the type who puts your headphones in, puts your head down, and crushes the task.
Quality Mindset: You understand that if your gouge is messy, the weld is messy. You take pride in "clean" prep.
Summary
