Do you thrive in a high-volume, ever-changing environment where your ability to multitask is your superpower?
Are you a seasoned Senior Accountant who wants to master the operational books now, with a defined path to step into the Controller seat within the year?
...
Do you have the patience to handle high-volume payroll and HR administration while simultaneously ensuring the General Ledger is flawless?
Are you looking for a role where you can be the "right hand" to leadership, eventually taking ownership of financial statements and reporting?
I am currently partnering with a successful, multi-location retail organization that is in growth mode. They are looking for a Senior Accountant who isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves. This is not a role for someone who wants to hide in a cubicle; this is an interactive, fast-paced position working directly with the Owners, the Controller, and Store Managers.
This position is a unique blend of high-volume operational accounting and strategic growth. You will start as the "Gatekeeper of the General Ledger," handling the day-to-day chaos so the current Controller can transition into the CFO role. The goal is for you to step up into the Controller title as you master the business (within the year).
Advantages
- Well-established company
- Great culture and people
- Competitive compensation package
- Support for CPA annual dues
- Free parking and store discount
Responsibilities
Gatekeeper of the General Ledger: You will ensure the GL is "perfect." This includes coding, posting, journal entries, and balance sheet reconciliations. You are the final check before the CFO runs high-level reports.
Supervisory Accounts Payable: You will no longer be entering high-volume invoices manually. Instead, you will supervise the AP function, ensuring the incoming AP Clerk is processing payments accurately and responding to vendors on time.
Payroll & HR Administration: You will take ownership of the payroll process for ~180 employees across two locations using ADP Workforce Now. This includes timecard approvals, preparing contracts, and managing onboarding packages.
The "Juggling Act": You will handle ad-hoc requests from the owners (e.g., investigating costs, checking specific numbers) without getting flustered.
Cash Management: Assist with the internal system for handling funds and reconciling daily cash deposits.
Process Improvement: Maintain a systematic filing system and trail of supporting documentation to support the eventual audit and financial reporting process.
Qualifications
We are looking someone who is organized, efficient, and looking for a long-term home. Maybe you are looking for a role to ride our the last of your working years?
Experience: You have a strong background in full-cycle accounting. A CPA (or international equivalent) is highly preferred to support the future transition to Controller
The Personality: You are unflappable. When priorities change or owners ask for three different things at once, you remain organized and productive.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in QuickBooks and ADP Workforce Now is a significant asset. You are comfortable with Excel and Google Sheets.
Organizational Master: You know how to clear your desk. You have a system for tracking the 30-40 small tasks that land on your plate daily so nothing falls through the cracks.
Summary
Why Apply?
Clear Succession Plan: The current Controller is moving to CFO this year. This role is designed for you to move up.
Stability: This is a successful business with a dedicated team.
*New Office: The team is moving to a new office location (Keele/Lawrence) in February, currently at the Vaughan location*
