Responsibilities
Reporting to the VP of Finance, you will oversee all aspects of accounting operations and play a critical role in driving the required team cohesion and process improvements.
Key Responsibilities and Impact:
- Operational Accounting & Standard Costing (Must-Have Focus)
- Oversee all daily accounting operations, including G/L, A/P, A/R, and payroll, ensuring proper controls and compliance with ASPE.
- Serve as the expert on standard cost accounting, performing deep-dive variance analysis (materials, labor, overhead) to support operational efficiency and profitability.
- Coordinate the full month-end close process, including reconciliations (bank, intercompany) and final posting.
- Be accountable for maintaining internal controls, ensuring data integrity, and partnering with departments to deliver actionable, data-driven insights.
- Oversee capital asset administration, including project review, depreciation schedules, and continuity maintenance.
System Optimization & Compliance
- Drive the optimization of the ERP system (Epicor), improving reporting capabilities, and data quality.
- Act as a key player in streamlining and cleaning up financial systems processes, specifically in areas like payroll entries, WSIB, LTD, and benefits administration (ADP experience is a nice-to-have).
-Handle all required Statutory Reporting including HST, WSIB, and EHT returns, as well as managing corporate instalments.
Team Leadership & Culture Fit
- Lead and mentor the accounting team of 2, assigning projects, reviewing performance, and providing essential coaching.
- Foster a humble, approachable, and collaborative team environment, ensuring the finance department maintains a supportive, non-abrasive tone that aligns with Executive Leadership's down-to-earth mentality.
Qualifications
- CPA Designation or actively pursuing a CPA with significant progress.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in a Manufacturing environment, with Standard Costing experience being an absolute must-have.
- Proven ability to manage and mentor a small team effectively.
- Excellent communication and critical-thinking skills, with a high attention to detail.
- Advanced proficiency with a manufacturing ERP system, specifically Epicor is a solid nice to have.
- Experience with ADP, BI tools, and data visualization platforms.
