Responsibilities
Program PLCs (Mitsubishi, Allen Bradley, Pilz, etc.) and industrial robots (Yaskawa, Fanuc, Kawasaki, etc.).
Design and develop integrated control systems using PLCs, HMIs, and robotic programs for new equipment launches, modifications, and engineering change instructions (ECIs).
Simulate, test, and debug machine control systems in-house to implement countermeasures for safety, quality, and productivity concerns.
Review and coordinate changes to safety control systems in compliance with Pre-Start Health and Safety Review (PSHSR) requirements.
Troubleshoot and modify electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic control systems; update related technical drawings and perform hands-on work as needed.
Develop specifications for equipment upgrades and ECIs, obtain supplier quotes, draft purchase orders, and manage supplier contracts.
Direct contractors and tradespeople on-site during equipment modifications or installations.
Coordinate commissioning trials, follow-up reports (PFS), and equipment status updates.
Manage timelines and resources for equipment modifications and installations.
Develop and document control specifications and commissioning standards to ensure consistency across equipment procurement and startup.
Organize and maintain engineering documentation, spare parts coordination, and equipment audits.
Lead efforts to improve equipment efficiency through internal teams and external contractors.
Apply lean engineering principles such as cycle time reduction, line balancing, and error-proofing to optimize process parameters.
Analyze internal Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to identify and implement process improvement opportunities.
Provide technical direction to maintenance personnel during major projects and repairs.
Produce detailed drawings and documents using AutoCAD.
Audit and update equipment parameters to ensure they match approved specifications.
Develop and support processes related to service parts and production support during build phases.
Propose cost-saving measures related to spare parts and consumables.
Demonstrate knowledge of the client’s Environmental Policy and contribute to continuous improvement in environmental performance.
Understand the environmental impact of daily activities and adhere to related work instructions.
Maintain awareness of the Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan (EPRP).
Qualifications
Degree in Electrical/Electronics or Mechatronics Engineering, or a related diploma with 5+ years of experience in an automotive robotic welding or stamping environment.
Proven experience in equipment electrical and pneumatic design, including safety systems.
Familiarity with PSR reviews and CSA standards is an asset.
Strong programming experience with Mitsubishi PLCs and robot teaching for Yaskawa, Fanuc, and Kawasaki systems.
Experience with heavy stamping presses, peripheral equipment, and laser cutting systems is considered an asset.
Highly organized and self-motivated with a proactive mindset.
Strong project management skills and ability to handle multiple priorities.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
Willingness to work overtime as needed.
