Responsibilities
Technical & Drafting
Enclosure Design & Detailing: Develop, review, and refine detailing for building enclosure systems (air/vapor barriers, thermal insulation, roofing, and waterproofing) to ensure high-performance continuity.
Drafting Excellence: Prepare accurate construction documents, details, and sections using AutoCAD and/or Bluebeam strictly adhering to Architectural drawing standards.
Specifications: Utilize MasterFormat to assist in preparing, reviewing, and organizing project specifications and technical data sheets.
Site & Field Work
Field Reviews: Conduct on-site inspections and testing (e.g., infrared thermography, electrical impedance scanning, smoke testing, wind testing to FM 1-52) to verify construction complies with design documents and building codes.
Site Reports: Document site conditions, progress, and deficiencies through clear, concise field review reports and photo logs.
Client & Project Management
Client Relations: Act as a primary, face-to-face point of contact for clients, contractors, and project stakeholders on-site and in meetings, translating complex technical issues into actionable solutions.
Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and architects to resolve complex building envelope challenges efficiently.
Qualifications
Education: Diploma in Architectural Technologies, Building Science, Civil Engineering Technology, Civil or Structural Engineering.
Experience: 3 to 5 years of dedicated experience in building science consulting, architectural technology, or building envelope quality assurance.
Standards & Codes: Strong familiarity with Alberta Building Code (ABC), National Building Code (NBC), and MasterFormat structures.
Software Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD; working knowledge of Bluebeam and THERM is considered a strong asset.
Field Ready: Proven site experience with a solid understanding of construction safety protocols, sequencing, and typical building envelope assemblies.
Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills with proven on site contractor experience and the ability to maintain strong client relationships under pressure.
Travel: Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle for site visits around Calgary and Southern Alberta.
