Responsibilities
Driving and Equipment Transport:
Safely operate and drive Class 1 commercial vehicles, including tractor-trailers, lowbeds, and other transport equipment, to move heavy machinery and materials to and from job sites.
Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections on all vehicles and equipment, ensuring compliance with all provincial/state and federal regulations.
Secure loads properly using industry-standard tie-down procedures to ensure the safety and security of all equipment during transport.
Maintain accurate logbooks and records, adhering to all hours-of-service regulations.
Actively participate in all aspects of the job site, including physically demanding labor tasks such as shoveling, digging pits, and potholing to locate existing utilities.
Assist with the setup and teardown of job sites, including the placement of safety signage and barriers.
Handle and move materials, tools, and equipment as directed by the crew supervisor.
Work effectively as a team member, assisting equipment operators and other crew members to ensure projects are completed on schedule and to a high standard.
Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Qualifications
Valid Class 1 driver's license with a 10 year clean driver's abstract.
Proven experience as a Class 1 driver, preferably in the construction or a related industry.
Demonstrated ability to perform physically demanding labor tasks.
Knowledge of underground construction and utility installation processes.
Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to perform basic equipment maintenance.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, outdoor environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with a specific brand of directional drill (e.g., Vermeer, Ditch Witch).
Experience operating a directional drill and locating equipment.
Relevant safety certifications (e.g., CSTS, WHMIS, OSHA 10/30).
Experience hauling multi-axle configurations.
