Responsibilities
We're seeking a CPA with 5+ years of progressive finance/accounting experience who embodies the following:
- Expertise in financial reconciliations, complex journal entries, and providing insightful financial analysis.
- Ability to translate complex financial concepts to non-financial audiences with clarity and empathy, building trust across the community.
- Unwavering integrity, sound judgment, and a strong sense of stewardship.
- A coaching mindset to lead and support the Finance team and foster effective collaboration across all departments.
- Proficiency in financial systems with a commitment to continuous improvement for efficiency and accuracy.
- Experience with not-for-profit fund accounting is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- As the Financial Controller, you will provide critical financial leadership and direct the day-to-day accounting functions:
- Lead and direct all day-to-day accounting functions (A/P, A/R, Payroll) and ensure financial/accounting objectives are met.
- Prepare quarterly financial reports and reconciliations, manage the general ledger, and provide meaningful business analytics for strategic decision-making.
- Lead, coach, and support the Finance team (including the Store Manager), conducting performance reviews and addressing team concerns.
- Manage the year-end audit process (including working papers and financial statements) and oversee HST reporting and annual tax receipt preparation.
- Prepare financial modelling for new projects, assist with contract negotiation, and prepare materials for the Board Finance & Audit Committee meetings.
- Provide administration for key financial systems (e.g., managing accounts, opening/closing fiscal periods).
Qualifications
- Post-Secondary Education in Finance/Accounting.
- CPA designation is required.
- 5+ years of progressive Finance/Accounting experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in Microsoft Excel.
- Proven experience with not-for-profit fund accounting.
- Preferred: Experience in an Independent School environment, and familiarity with Dayforce and Multiview systems.
