We're working with a family-owned construction company in Etobicoke to find their next Corporate Controller. This is a newly created, highly strategic role for a professional who wants to be the "fourth leg" of their executive team. The ideal candidate will be a business partner to the owners, providing financial insight and strategic recommendations to support their rapid growth.

Responsibilities
- Financial Strategy & Leadership: Serve as a key financial advisor to the owners and senior leadership team. Develop and implement financial strategies, provide business insights, and identify opportunities for profitability.
- Accounting Operations & Oversight: Oversee all accounting operations, including payables, receivables, and payroll. Manage day-to-day bookkeeping, general ledger, and tax preparation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Construction-Specific Expertise: Apply deep knowledge of project/job costing and Work in Progress (WIP) accounting. Work closely with project managers to monitor project performance, analyze fixed and overhead costs, and communicate any variances to ownership to ensure projects stay on track.
- Reporting & Analysis: Lead the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements (monthly, quarterly, annually) for the company's four entities. Conduct financial analysis to support strategic decision-making and ensure long-term financial stability.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure the company adheres to all relevant accounting standards (ASPE) and tax laws. Identify and assess financial risks, and develop mitigation strategies.
- Team & Process Management: Lead and mentor the accounting team. Implement and maintain strong internal controls and streamlined processes. Experience with technology implementations, such as biometric time-tracking systems, is valuable.
Qualifications
- Designation: A CPA designation is required.
- Experience: Extensive experience (7+ years) in a senior finance leadership role, with a strong blend of financial expertise and a deep understanding of the construction, manufacturing, or metalworking industries.
- Skills: Must possess strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills. The ability to build strong relationships and communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders is essential.
- Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of accounting principles for construction projects, including the percentage of completion method. Experience with US GAAP is considered a valuable asset, as the company has operations in both Canada and the U.S.
