Location: Mississauga, ON
Duration: 12-month contract, with renewal potential
Work Arrangement: Hybrid – approximately 6 days per month onsite
Build, Optimize and Modernize Enterprise Database Environments!
...
Are you an experienced Database Administrator who enjoys keeping mission-critical systems running smoothly while exploring new and emerging technologies?
We’re looking for a Senior Database Administrator with strong hands-on IBM DB2 experience and working knowledge of Oracle to join an established enterprise technology environment in Mississauga.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex database challenges, improving system reliability and being part of an evolving technology landscape. You'll play an important role in supporting established database platforms while helping the organization transition toward modern technologies, including containerization and OpenShift.
DB2 expertise is the priority. While Oracle experience is important, we're particularly interested in someone with a solid DB2 foundation, a willingness to learn and the ability to adapt as technology evolves. Exposure to OpenShift or containerization is an asset, but not a deal-breaker – the team is prepared to help you develop these skills.
Work Arrangement & Location
This is a hybrid opportunity based out of Mississauga.
Approximately 6 onsite days per month.
Wednesday is the designated anchor day at the Mississauga office.
The additional onsite day can be arranged at either the Mississauga office or the downtown Toronto location.
Remaining days are worked remotely.
Advantages
12-month contract with potential for extension.
Possibility of permanent employment for the right individual.
Opportunity to work in an established enterprise technology environment.
Exposure to evolving technologies and modernization initiatives.
Opportunity to expand your skills in OpenShift and containerization.
Hybrid flexibility with limited onsite requirements.
Responsibilities
What You'll Be Doing
As a Senior Database Administrator, you will be responsible for maintaining the availability, performance, security and reliability of enterprise database environments.
Your responsibilities will include:
Administering, monitoring and troubleshooting enterprise IBM DB2 and Oracle databases across development, test, disaster recovery and production environments.
Managing database performance, tuning, capacity planning, backup and recovery, patching and upgrades.
Supporting high-availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions to ensure business continuity.
Investigating complex database issues, performing root-cause analysis and resolving production incidents.
Optimizing SQL queries, database configurations and overall workload performance.
Developing scripts and automation to streamline database administration and reduce manual effort.
Implementing database security, access controls, encryption and compliance practices.
Working collaboratively with application, infrastructure, cloud and cybersecurity teams.
Maintaining technical documentation, operational procedures and knowledge-sharing materials.
Supporting additional database platforms, including PostgreSQL and SQL Server, as required.
Exploring and supporting modern database technologies and containerized environments
Qualifications
What We're Looking For
Must-Have Experience
Strong, hands-on experience administering IBM DB2 databases.
Working knowledge and experience with Oracle databases.
5+ years of experience in database administration or a similar production-focused role.
Solid understanding of database architecture, SQL, performance tuning, backup and recovery, security and troubleshooting.
Experience supporting enterprise or business-critical database environments.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical issues.
Additional Skills That Would Be Great to Have
Experience with PostgreSQL and/or Microsoft SQL Server.
Scripting and automation experience using Python, PowerShell, Bash or Ansible.
Exposure to Azure or hybrid infrastructure environments.
Familiarity with OpenShift, Kubernetes, Docker or other containerization technologies.
Experience with database automation, CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
Knowledge of high-availability and disaster recovery solutions.
Important: You do not need to be an expert in every technology listed. Strong DB2 experience, a solid DBA foundation and the willingness to learn new technologies are the key priorities.
