Responsibilities
- Database Administration & Operations: Install, migrate, and administer DBMS. Manage database optimization, backup/recovery, and capacity planning.
- Data Architecture & Design: Create physical database designs and data architectures for new databases, specifically focusing on Data Warehousing and Data Mart structures.
- Query & Performance Tuning: Utilize expert-level SQL to write complex scripts, perform data joins/transformations, and conduct deep performance tuning to ensure high-speed information retrieval.
- Data Standards & Governance: Research, develop, and implement data standardization documentation. Monitor and enforce database rules to ensure consistency and security.
- Cyber Security: Research and implement vulnerability remediations to protect data assets against emerging threats.
- Sustainment & Support: Support release cycles, time-sensitive infrastructure upgrades, and urgent technical priorities within a distributed cluster environment.
- Dimensional Modeling: Design and implement Dimensional Data Models (Star/Snowflake schemas) to support business intelligence and analytics requirements.
Qualifications
- Proven experience with one or more major database technologies (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL).
- Proficiency in writing and optimizing complex SQL scripts.
- Hands-on experience cleaning, transforming, and joining large datasets.
- Subject Matter Expert in the database design of data warehouses or data marts.
- Direct experience designing data architecture for new databases from the ground up.
- Strong background in Dimensional Data Modeling.
- Experience creating and applying data standards across an organization.
- Demonstrated ability to develop comprehensive documentation on data standardization and requirements.
- Previous experience in a large-scale public sector organization of equivalent complexity is an asset.
